As I'm sure many of you have noticed, you've started a rather large collection of unused commons/uncommons even low end rares... So with your help I would like to devise a solution... A way to get those cards to the table... I have a game idea but other interesting concepts would be greatly welcomed...
My idea...
First you'll need a decent stack of random cards...
Next a form of counters or maybe currency... I myself used 2 piles of random lands, 100 of each for each person...
The premise is a strategic draft where players can see what each other pick and try to find ways to counter it... You'll be drafting 30 cards and adding 15 land of your choice at the end...
Now what I did was flip out 15 random cards in a 5x3 square in the center of the table...
Each card was placed in a cheap sleeve and with a marker in each cards corner was put basically a price value between 1-8... Meaning that's how many of your "100 lands" you must spend to add the card to your deck... A good rule of thumb, commons should cost like 1-3, uncommons 3-5, rares 5-7...So the strategy comes in to where you can't over spend, if you do the other player is allowed to put in cards of different colors that you may not even need into your deck until you have 30 cards...
So basically we have a strategic draft where both players are able to see what the other is drafting or fighting, to get the best cards of a color to build... Sounds easy right? Now I also came up with an added idea for those wanting to spice it up... Let's say it's your turn to draft a card, and it's a beast card... Your Oppenent has the option to spend some of his land or currency to wipe out a section of the board... This is where the 5x3 board comes into play... He can choose to spend 3 land to wipe out any column that is 3 in length or 5 and wipe out a row of 5 cards... But it's risky because new cards are then flopped out that the player has the option to draft...
So everyone that's basically my game idea... I've played it several times and it's a lot of fun! Really gets your brain pumping thinking strategy... Let me know if anything is unclear and needs further explanation or if you have any ideas to make it better!! I'd love to hear them! Thanks everyone!

That's pretty cool. I might try that with some cards of mine with a twist.

Foreplay0333

What's your twist idea? I'd love to hear good new ways to revise the concept

Interesting idea although I'd have to see it to really understand jt

Ya what's neat is you never know what kind of deck you'll have until you start drafting, different every time you play... I ended up buying the return to rav holiday box and used the box strictly for this game... Filled it with tons of random cards and each one is in a sleeve with a number written on the sleeve... People really enjoy it... It's a nice break away from the traditional constructed play...

The1337Magician

I might increase the deck to 40 cards with 20 land or so.

Foreplay0333

Ya I thought the same thing at first, but drafting takes more time then u think it will... Mainly because once u get done drafting around 20 cards or so, you have to keep recounting how much land you have I noticed... Unless of course u keep tabs by writing it down...but I'm forgetful... You don't wanna run out bc then your Oppenent can really screw you...

Another good idea is to separate a handful of special lands... And set a value to them also... At the end of draft if either player has any extra land left over to spend they can... Even a pile for artifacts... But I typically keep artifacts separate but still draft them during the 30 cards

I was thinking of maybe adding in a cost for the player wanting to draft a card that is about to be wiped out, like a freeze counter option... Costs that player like an additional 5 land or something... Thoughts?

Ya it's a bit in depth, but like I said its a neat change of pace that allows you to get those cards gathering dust on the table... And it's a break away from playing against the same old decks all the time... Because with this you never know what you're gunna play against let alone with... But may not be for everyone
