Curse of the nightly hunt

I apologize for not linking, dunno how to do it on this app (just joined), but say if I play curse of the nightly hunt on my opponent and he has sentinel gargoyle and during whichever turn when the attack phase is initiated and my opponent has 3 land available, would he have to use his land to use sentinel gargoyle's ability to lose defender and attack me?

No. He would be required to attack with all creatures capable of attacking. If it has defender, hes not obligated to animate to attack.
