The 3 colour section of the colour pie was named in "shards" block I think. Named after the plane that exhibits those three colours.

Yep, in the Alara block they were given these names.

Aside from the rath cycle, I think shards block is my favorite. Not sure why, other than there isn't one card out of that block I DON'T like...lol

Then how do all the three color decks get their names? Like red white black?

If you look at the magic colour pie (on the back of every card) you'll see it goes clockwise {W}{U}{B}{R}{G}. Each of the five colour schemes were given names but only for the colours adjacent to them. {G}{W}{U} for example. They're all next to each other. For things like {R}{W}{B} or {R}{W}{U}, they were left out of the loop and have yet to be named by wizards. I've heard of "junk" and "american" for example but those were named by the community. Naya, bant, esper, jund and grixis were named by wotc.
