I'm not sure if this should be in the combos or rules section because I'm not certain, but if I'm correct you can gain control of any permanent forever since the "is an artifact" ends at the end of the turn.

Not sure about the forever part.

It would work.  The same strategy is used in the sliver premium deck with {Ameboid Changling} and {Sliver Overlord}. Control doesn't shift back unless it loses that type before the control effect resolves.
