Invigorate + Infect

{invigorate} used in conjuction with an Infect strategy equals a free +4/4 instant card since it does not matter that the opponent gains 3 life.  These means a 1/1 infect creature can give an opponent half the needed poison counters.

I have a friend who uses a deck with this combo does it really work?

Absolutely!  And it's a great one too, since boosting a creature with infect packs a Stronger punch.
If you can land a {Glistener Elf} turn one, then turn two attack and pump it with {Giant Growth}s, free {Invigorate} and pay some life for {Mutagenic Growth}s you could win turn two. Youd have to have a Kung Fu grip, though (slang for great opening hand, for the n00bs).

The elf and {Mutagenic Growth} are the only Standard things in there anyway.

Or you could turn 1 {Glistener Elf}, turn 2  {Assault Strobe} and 2 {Mutagenic Growth}s for the Standard turn 2 win
