If I have a {Sigarda, Host of Herons} in play and my opponent has a {Desecration Demon} in play, can I sac a creature to tap the demon?   I looked at the rulings for sigarda and it looks like I can, but at FNM a while back I was not aloud to.

You cannot. Sigarda will not let you sac a creature for the demon's ability, since it is a source an opponent controls. The part that may seem confusing is the "special action" part. Desecration Demon's ability is a trigger that has the opponent sac a creature to tap it, and is not considered a special action.

And it's not an activation either.  Makes sense.  Thanks.

Ouch I had the exact same situation except reversed during an edh game. My buddy claimed that since he couldn't sac anything that he could tap my demon for free every turn :/

That's a shame :/
Next time, run this ruling by your buddy:

5/1/2012   As a spell or ability an opponent controls resolves, if it would force you to sacrifice a permanent, you just don't. That part of the effect does nothing. If that spell or ability gives you the option to sacrifice a permanent (as Brain Gorger's ability does), you can't take that option.

Sigarda does not allow you to choose to sac a creature.
