It depends, you can make an ok land base out of core set taplands, but it is going to be much slower than with shocks.  And hey, shocks are only around $10 right now.  Could be legacy.  Could need a playset of {Underground Sea} :(

i am making it for legacy. Though the deck type could work with shocklands. I think I'll wait till dragons maze comes out and the shocklands go down even more, then snatch up 3 {sacred founderys} 3 {temple gardens} and 3 {stomping grounds}. Those along with the 3 {ancient ziggurats} I picked up today could establish a stable enough base...the last one could even work with an all creature deck...hmmmmmmm
