Abilities - when to use?

Hello. Can U tell me when I can use this abilities of this cards?

1 - {Dragon Hatchling}
2 - {Razortip Whip}

I tried to find answer reading rules but i couldn't find.

I believe abilities cast at instant speed unless they say otherwise, so you can use them anytime you could use an instant.

My friend told me the same but some abilities have written that this ability can be used like instant so...?

You can activate both abilities any time you could play an instant. Following APNAP, of course.

Those are probably old. The default for activated abilities is instant speed. Exceptions (e.g. equip, scavenge) will specify that they can be activated at sorcery speed only.

Planeswalker abilities are activated abilities that are sorcery speed, too.

I think the wide variety of abilities makes it hard to classify them globally. I am looking for the rule, but can't seem to find it. In the case of the two cards you mentioned, I am pretty sure they can be activated anytime you could activate an instant. I will keep looking for the rule though.

you have to tap a land to activate the ability, so as long as you have an untapped land you can use the ability. As to when that ability can be used, that is anytime you can play an instant.

No, no. In game U don't tap mana. It goes automaticly. In game I can use this ability (ofcourse if I have free red mana) before playin land from my hand. Only in this phase or before attacking phase.

Edit: I can use ability after tap creature to attack opponent.

You can use it as many times as you can pay for it any time you can cast an instant

Sure! As it is an activated ability you can activate it whenever you have priority and could cast an instant. (Active Player Non-Active Player priority rules apply -APNAP)
