I also like  {Lightning Mauler}.  He is always good to speed up your creatures.
The bad part is he rotates and doesnt really get played outside if standard

I know you are right, but why do you think that is?
In modern and legacy there is just infinitely better cards over him. I would live to see him in modern but i dont think it will happen sad to say because i love  {Lightning Mauler}

It adds a +1/+1 counter more than whatever a creature would have. If it would enter with 0 counters, it gets 1. If it would enter with 2, it gets 3 {prime speaker zegana} for example.

Question...

Does  {Zameck Guildmage} put a +1/+1 counter on every creature that enters the battlefield, or does it do like it says and put an additional +1/+1 on creatures that are already entering the battlefield with one on?

Pretty sweet with an undying creature and a sac outlet. Draw a card for {U}{G}.

So then why doesn't it say "creatures you control that enter the battlefield this turn gain a +1/+1 counter"
The wording is actually very important here.
The guild Mage says additional 1/1 counters. The reason has to do with ETB effects. If a creature entered with a 1/1 counter and the guild Mage said enters with a 1/1 counter, then only one 1/1 counter would be placed.
The word additional is what makes 2 1/1 counters be placed.

So then if you  {Shock} someone in response to  {Lightning Bolt} them they only take 3 damage?
I assume this is still about the guildmage. The "additional" is in there so to word it more clearly in cases where a creature is already entering with +1/+1 counters, that the ability does not override that, and also to make it more clear that subsequent activation of the ability stacks. Otherwise, the ability wouldn't stack, and people could get confused about creatures that already enter with counters, thinking the guildmage would override the creature's ability.

And so by the same logic couldn't people get confused by the fact that shock and bolt do the same thing?
If the wording were "target player takes 2 damage this turn", sure. I think the main reason for the wording on the guildmage is its ability to stack if used multiple times in a turn. If it simy said "creature enter with a +1/+1 counter on them this turn", you could activate it a million times a turn, they'd only get +1/+1. This way, you can pump them up even more.
I agree, the wording could be better, but hey, it works.
