Riffle shuffling, yay or nay

I riffle shuffle my deck, dont do it to opponents though out of respect. Also, show everyone your 600 dollar deck, then riffle in front of them, oh the cringing

I ask people not to riffle shuffle my decks, it makes me sad watching people do it, especially with modern/legacy decks.

Magic cards are pretty durable, and a *proper* riffle shuffle won't damage them. Being in good sleeves is for sure a wise idea, though - makes them even less prone to dings and bends.

Considering that riffle and side-shuffling are the most randomizing shuffling methods, I am all for it. I will respect my opponent's wishes and not riffle their deck if they ask me not to, but I will shuffle it extra long if they do, in case that's out of a fear of losing their stacked deck rather than a fear of damaged cards. Safety precaution.

It's definitely the fastest, I would have less of an issue doing it in a limited game compared to a game with my revised cards in them.

I like the side shuffle but unsleeved I find it still making little nicks if hit at the wrong angle

I riffle shuffle a $1700 deck all the time, it's still a-ok. I've been doing it for several years also. Riffle shuffling and/or side shuffling are the only acceptable forms of shuffling. Pile shuffling isn't random enough - stop doing it. It wastes so much time an accomplishes very little.

I couldn't agree more with this. So many people at LGS pile shuffle to try to look like they know what they're doing.

Ruffles can shuffle cards? What about machine guns? And shotguns? Can you bazooka shuffle?



Seriously though. I've found rifle shuffling doesn't bend my cards

I highly disagree with the sleeves thing, unless your sleeves are toploaders sleeves bend, and the cards bend with them, it's simple physics: transfer of force, when looking through the 50 cent box at my lgs its quite obvious which ones were used by riffle shufflers

The cards are durable, so riffle shuffling is probably just fine, but I only sideshuffle because I have a feeling I'd mess up the riffle and bend something.  A broken sleeve is easier to replace than an expensive card 

Riffle shuffling is perfectly fine. Never have I damaged any cards by riffle shuffling

Sleeves absolutely make a difference. Of course they bend with the card, they're supposed to. The point is that they protect and increase strength. Kind of like how a piece of paper by itself is flimsy and you can tear it with two fingers, but a paperback book...still bends with the paper, but you can't just tear it in half anymore.

Is riffle shuffling when you split the deck in half and bend them in so they fall?
I shuffle by taking half the deck in one hand, half in the other, and pushing the corners of one half midway up the other half (like the pros do really fast!) and I haven't had an issue except occasionally splitting a sleeve.
