Kudos. I've never heard of SAG AFTRA. Pursuing the arts is a gutsy move. I'd love to see it pay off for you.

I agree. Best of luck to you, muggy. I wish I had the guts to pursue a career in music.

SAG and AFTRA are actors' guilds excusively I believe.  I was an extra once, back in college.

It's regarded as the main Union to get into as a performer; it's definitely paying off, I started in theatre doing improv my sophomore year. Now I can choose projects I wish to be apart of, in the loop enough where I am asked to come in without submitting. I think the hardest part is keeping your "look". I like changing it up, so currently in relying on my connections to cast me, surprisingly most do not have any character skills in this town; so many newer actors are casted according to a stereotype/archetype of your physical appearance. I've been on Dexter & some other big shows, some as an extra and others as bit parts. Most of the world has possibly seen my face an not realized it.

Anyone interested in pursuing an artistry as a career: do it. Last thing you want is to realize you're 35 and workin in an office for a corporation that doesn't really benefit you in contrast to how you benefit them. Fortunately the housing market is dropping in price for this current generation, so money isn't the only goal anymore for life; this world has some pretty awful elements in it, so I chose to do what I enjoy rather than what  some family and others suggested I do to be "stable".

If you wake up and draw/shoot/play music/write and it fills you with bliss; I say pursue it. All it takes is for you to get in front of the right audience and your work can soar. Just do it though, don't expect anything until you complete projects and keep doing it. Not all can be the Biebs & be YouTube famous.

I have several websites im currently planning out for my different branches of entertainment. One will be live events and artistic short films, mainly having to do with the improvement of our social health and natural environments (yes ima. Festival hopping hippie) and the other is my tongue in cheek comedy. It's my daily life and I enjoy having it how I choose to live it. I have worked for many businesses who want me to basically take over for managing, but when it came to pay and time commitment it was laughable. I just don't see any point in running someone's business if they walk away with all the benefits of your hard work and all you earned was a measly 500-800/week. Your life is worth more than that.

Is iMtG Law compatible with your religion?

Since the law only applies to the forum, yes. And there are no laws I have read that would be blatantly against the Christian faith. There may be some that are questionable, no victim no crime, for example. The debatable point being that the victim may also be the perpetrator. Magic is a game and therefore neutral. Anything can be a sin if abused. I love this game and do not find anything in the law anti Christian.

Hmm.. Demons, idolatry, mysticism, an endless list of images, symbols, and narratives involving these ideas...

Nothing to see here, folks.

It's just words on paper, with brilliant gameplay.

Langku

So is scripture just rules on paper with brilliant wordplay? There must be some axiological weight assigned to both these piles of paper.

😈 I'm playing devil's advocate here but I'm with Barzini to some degree.  How you get past the unbiblical elements of the game?

No. What elements of the game are unbiblical?

Langku

How about {demonic tutor} or everyone's buddy {lord of the pit}? Or {dark ritual}, or {slaughter games}. I'm gonna go out on a limb Zacchaeus style and call that UN-Phillipians 4:8. I'm not going to hijack this post and wax ecemenical  but I'm thinking there would be some discomfort among a lot of Christians over that.

Bookmeister

I read Stephen King books along with much Sci Fi and Fantasy. It is just good storytelling I enjoy. Magic is interactive stories in game form. There is nothing unbiblical about it however, I would agree with you that if a Christian uncomfortable playing the game they should not play it.

Ah, yes, under iMtG law suicide is legal, but Christianity forbids it. Thanks for pointing that out ;)

My family used to be deeply religious and I had piqued the interest of my childhood friends from church into MTG.  When the pastor and parents of said friends found out about the relation to the occult, they banned us from playing.

Anyone can rationalize thier behavior to suit thier beliefs; It's all about perspective.  Whatever helps you sleep at night - I certainly didn't because it made me feel guilty.

Looking back on it now I knew that they were right in that context.
