If an ability causes {progenitus}to be discarded to the GY can {lazavy} copy him even though he has protection from everything? And with  {Progenitus}, does his text indicate he technically never hits the graveyard? (therefore no lazav worky?)

Lazav cannot copy him, as {Progenitus} never hits the graveyard. The word "instead" indicates a replacement effect (it being revealed and going to the deck, in place of going to the grave) and replaced events never occur.

What Keyeto said. Just want to add on that, hypothetically, if the replacement thing weren't there, the protection would NOT stop Lazav from copying it. Protection only applies to permanents on the battlefield (and occasionally a player) but does not remain active on a card that is not a permant. So, you can {Cremate} a {Knight of Glory} in a graveyard, for example. And that means Lazav is capable of copying creatures that enter a graveyard that would, if alive, be protected from him (be it pro-{B}, pro-{U}, pro-Creatures, pro-Everything, etc)

Good addition Gorzo! Looks like another innocent rules question, that just didn't see the Gorzeyeto coming for it. It's a shame 😕

The Gorzeyeto will rule this land. All shall tremble in its wake.
