I have always played an offensive deck and never tried anything else. Agro is getting a little boring so I want to try something new, so I'm looking to build a U/B control deck.  My problem is that I'm not sure where to start building. What are the cards that any great control deck must have? What's my mid to late game suppose to look like? Win condition?  I'm new to control obviously so much help and insight is appreciated.

If your new to control I recommend a non blue control deck to start. Learning blue is a bit daunting and even more so if you're trying to learn control at the same time.

The main points of any good control deck come from knowledge. You are essentially building a counter to everything you are likely to see, but you cant really do that if you don't have a clear idea of what you will be running up against. Lets start there, what are you trying to beat?

I'm going to run it at FNM this week and everyone that plays at my local shop net decks, so I need counters to all the top decks lol

The only color control decks I play esper and bant thoughs work the best against net decks in my opionion and another thing to keep in mind is control decks can be expensive

I don't mind spending some money. Odds are I have most of the cards I will need. Just not sure how to make them work together

Do you play on cockatrice? A majority of those decks are net decks and will be a good testing ground. My junk control is fairing pretty well against everything I've tested against. Jund splash white and the odd combo deck are the hardest matchups as of yet.

No I'm not on that, what is it? I have mtgo I can practice on if need be.

Kaleo42 makes a very good point.  Playing control is a "style" of play, not necessarily based on color.  You can actually play just about any deck in a control style.  You have to think of answers to potential threats your opponent plays.  I currently play Bant. I love it!  My main win con is {thragtusk} and {sigarda, host of herons}.  Sideboard is very important in a control deck.  That's your utility to make every matchup a good one for you.

I'll repost my deck, and you can check it out.
