Reasons I quit standard

Standard has been the format I have been playing for a real long time I used to have a legacy deck but took it apart for standard which was my worst mistake. Of course I would still play standard if I had a million dollars to afford the rotation every year. Think about it  {Thragtusk} is really only played in standard their are a few modern decks out there that use him but none in legacy.  {Thragtusk} compared to  {Thoughtseize},  {Thragtusk} will only be 25 or more dollars until when it rotates out of standard then it is at most a 8 to 10 dollar card,  {Thoughtseize} unless banned wil forever be 30 or more dollars. Remember  {Stoneforge Mystic} it was 30 dollars and was printed in an event deck and was so good it got banned and it still sees play in legacy and it is only 10 dollars  {Thragtusk} will eventually be impossible to trade and at a 8 dollar value. Not only do you lose value on your standard cards but every 3 months you have to go shell out more money for "just" standard cards I am currently working on building my mono white control deck in legacy and it is cheaper than most standard decks it only coats about 250 dollars and its price will probably always be the same if not go up. Modern is a good format to go into as well except every good card in the format gets banned EDH is super fun and the cards will always stay the same price. EDH, legacy and modern are all forever formats that might be hard to get into but once you do the prive is forever lasting

This is exactly why I got out of standard during zendikar block.

I'll sort of play standerd...at prereleases and booster drafts...oh wait. That's limited format

I quit Standard because it doesn't have enough variety. Since me and my friends were restricted to only a few sets, our games were the same, over and over again. I now got into EDH- a cheap, fun, awesome format, and I think that's all I'm ever going to play.

Legacy is the way to go. So many archetypes and its a better investment.

If you guys would go into the legacy category and find the article "playing on a budget" by me i need help with the deck im trying to make

I'm going modern because I was not playing years ago, and there are just so many sets to look through in modern alone.  Eventually I'll end up playing legacy, but I'm taking the time to learn the sets in modern first, then I'll make the push to legacy.  But yeah, standard is pretty terrible.

As long as reanimator is always a viable archetype in standard, ill keep a deck for FNM. But I won't invest as much into it as I would legacy.

I would love to build decks for a format but i just get destroyed by everyone in modern online, who jus use decks they find on google that are proven to work, and additionally my lgs is lame, carrying nothing but the latest set and only running drafts from the latest set and never running fnm for any format besides standard.

I play standard almost exclusively. I dont shell out a ton of money but there are a few reasons for that.
1. I win store credit to pay for fnms and over about 3 months and accumulate a decent amount.
2. I spend that extra credit and about $75 once every three months to play lots of sealed events that get us the cards we need.
3. By "Us" and "we" i mean that I have a shared collection (can also be done as open trading) which insures Dennis Danny and I all have enough to divy out cards to make 3 good decks and something decent for my gf Nicki.
4. I bring commons. Having commons and uncommons with me has allowed me to trade rapidly depreciating common cards for rares that occasionally sky rocket like {hellrider}.
5. I watch what wins and figure out why it wins. Mana screw, bad matchups, and unfavorable topdecks are excuses not reasons for a deck to win or lose. If that stuff is happening it's largely because of the deck construction. Yes crap happens, but that doesnt mean you cant make it less frequent or at least less devastating. This knowledge helps my speculative trading.
6. I help others. By taking time to help others, smiling, and just over all building a good report many people will trade in my favor as a thank you.

My love for standard comes from the problem solver in me making the best of limited resources. I also love that standard favors the innovative. Those that can most rapidly make the best of brand new cards win. Net decking isnt enough since the format changes so fast by the time a generic net decker learns how to play a deck competitively the format has changed and the deck is obsolete or needs revisions. Deck building is hard i know, understanding all the ins and outs of a deck is hard i know, but i love that challenge and i love helping others in that challenge.

I love edh but {kaalia the vast} and {zur the enchanter} need to burn in a fiery pit.

Modern takes similar innovation but bans the staples of decks once a year to "keep the field even."

Legacy is expensive to start but cheap to maintain and it's cards don't transfer to other formats too often. More importantly shops dont have a lot of support for older formats.

Vintage...no

There is my two cents.

I really only play standard since I don't have many modern or legacy cards even know Ive been playing 7 years I use to sell my cards I have one modern deck but it's not fast enough and the only legacy deck I got gets boring after a while

Got tired of updating my deck every 3 mth to so yeah I have a urzatron deck for modern and am a lot closer to finishing my stone blade legacy deck. Played one draft from gatecrash it was fun but just don't care if I see to many cards from it. Play a lot of EDH on mtgo. Love the formats wish they had a daily event for it.
