Situation: my opponent has several artifacts and 3 of which are artifact creatures. All are untapped. One of them is an {etched champion}. He has enough artifacts on the BF to give it protection from all colors.

I attack with an {engulfing slagwurm} that is enchanted with {lure}.

He taps one of the artifact creatures to dump a colorless mana into his pool in response to my attack.

My question is: does the {etched champion} survive?

Careful with your wording Testset. Protection does not prevent "death by damage" it prevents the damage itself (assuming the source is appropriate for protection to apply). This is very relevant with cards like {leyline of punishment} and {skullcrack} since damage cant be "prevented" protection no longer stops damage.

Protection from all colors means it cannot be targeted by, blocked by, or dealt damage by a colored source. It is also unable to be enchanted or equipped with a colored source.

For reference, Rules 502.7 and its subsections cover what protection is.
