If I have {deep-sea kraken} suspended, when my oppenents play a card and its countered do I remove one or two cards?  What does "play" mean?

If an opponent cast a spell and it is countered by another opponent, then you remove 2 counters. If it is countered by you then you remove one counter. Assuming you mean cast instead of play and counters instead of cards.

Well the card says play. So...that's why I worded that part that way.
And oops yeah I meant counters not cards.

According to the oracle text, play = cast when it comes to removing counters on the kraken. And "Cast" means adding to the stack. So if one opponent casts a spell, and another opponent casts a counterspell on it, 2 spells were put on the stack. That is 2 kraken suspend counters removed.
