so, you would pay 2 CMC to gain 5 life PLUS one of the following:
- 8 damage to opponent
- 5 damage to opponent and a 3/3 on the battlefield for you
- a 5/3 on the battlefield

2 mana for an awesome counterspell and a mana boost of one round which you can't actually control. It doesn't win you a game, although that Vexing Thragtusk does. Mana drain goes for 160 as an old card, vexing thragtusk would go for around 400 while it were still in standard, probably he would be sold for 600+ in the first weeks, fall down to 250 - 350 right after rotation, and when it were out for some 4 years it would be for around 500. That if it were not reprinted or obsolete by an even more broken card
