Are there any ideas about how to build around {Balefire Dragon} and/or will it ever be used in standard?

Gareth

I've seen a red green black pod build that uses 1 haven't tested it yet but looks playable just depends on if it is better than inferno Titan in the build

Please remember to put curly brackets around your card names, written with correct spelling and capitals for the benefit of those wishing to help. :)

Click the 123 button on your keyboard and then the #+= button and they are the second lot of different brackets. 😊

There will be a tutorial up soon for the process in Help.

Got it that is cool wondered how everyone was doing it

On topic, there really isn't a situation where {Balefire Dragon} is useful... Or rather, more useful than really any other high mana cost red fatty. If only he had haste... :(

BlackJester

Really?  This thing is a silver bullet against most swarm strategies like WW, goblins, zombies, and it will take out most vampires unless they can put up a good flying defense.

Phat Max

It's really just that he doesn't have haste. By the time you get him out, there is a very good chance he'll just get {Doom Blade}, and giving a turn before he really matters, just makes him a second rate choice really.

This is all based on Standard though. In something like a booster draft... Oh man :P

Also, I still really want one (or four)

BlackJester

Well, short of shroud, hexproof, or regeneration, most non-black creatures die to a {Doom Blade}, or any removal spell for that matter.  :)

Phat Max

Yeah... Just an example :P

Common consensus is that if your dropping a fatty, you usually want it to do something crazy... {Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite}, {Sheoldred, Whispering One}, {Primeval Titan}, and {Consecrated Sphinx} come to mind. They affect the board right away, and if left alone for a turn, usually win the game.

But I'm really just nitpicking. He is pretty awesome, just hard to justify the high mana cost

BlackJester

I agree that there are stronger fatties out there. I think he is well Suited in multiplayer formats where cost isn't such an issue. He's cool, not amazing, but fun.

Similar opinions on the matter. Sigh.... another great flavored mythic rare without a unique mechanic. Thanks for the tip SpikePit!
