Ok I have heard this talked about but not exactly sure what it is? Tried to search for it but nothing came up except the word in threads and the controlling. Please explain cuz I don't want to inadvertently do so.

It means you're saying something controversial or being a jerk to get a reaction from someone. Most trolls get a kick out of riling up people and getting reactions, hence the phrase "don't feed the trolls" because if no one responds, then the troll loses.

Simply put, trolling is instigating a reaction out of someone/a group of people by irking them.

Be it by just being a jerk to crapping on orhers' input to saying things to get people to notice and get riled, and cindjor said,is the essense of trolls

It's people that speak only to be hateful. It's not just joking, it's intentional meanness for no reason.

Example: I have a Dallas Cowboys fan page on Facebook. Many trolls(fans of other teams) like my page just so they can talk trash on every post I make.

Trolls have no lives and their only purpose is to bring people down. Not to get a laugh, but to make people feel bad. Basically the old bully in school thing

To be fair, not 100% of trolling is mean-spirited. My friends and I will troll each other in jest for laughs often, and I suspect many of you do also. It's when it's done with the intent to upset people that it's bad, and that is the type I don't think any of us want to see around here.
