"The fact is that stores are there to make profit. Times are hard for game stores. If they buy them in at $25, and sell at $35, they make ten bucks. They only get a maximum of 20 of these. So in a vacuum, they make $200 profit. But if they get 20 people willing to pay $100 for them and 20 who will only pay $35, they'll sell them for $100, which is their prerogative, they are providing a product and they are allowed to charge whatever price they see fit. Equally its your prerogative to decide its too much and not purchase at that price. Because the profit them could be the difference between breaking even and making a loss for the month. Would you rather pay to keep your LGS open or have it shut because its not making money?"

Just got mine at my lgs for $40 and they even held one for me when I asked why It wa 40 and not 35 like I was told and owner said it was because the ones he put on shelf to general public wa prices at 50 and they all sold out instantly the day he put them up so he took the last one in shop and set it aside for me because he knew I wanted it so either way MSRP or not I still got a great deal!

BlackJester

Man!  It's great that you got it for a bargain, but I still think its sleazy marking up an already agreed upon price. If they promised $35, you should get it for $35. An owner's integrity is worth more than $5 IMO.

Rass

made me laugh I was just reading some of the posts again. People are saying its fair for the store to mark it up but when people "over value" their cards on the trade part they get torn into.

Honestly I don't mind. I look at the $5 mark up as a small fee for him snagging the last one from his stock for me. He could have sold it to someone else for well over MSRP or even what he sold it to me at. So in my mind I don't find it sleazy at all would have been more sleazy if he just up and sold out of them when he promised me he'd have one for me no matter what

I still don't understand why Wizards just doesn't MSRP them @ $100

Marketing. For $35 most people would be interested in getting. For $100 not so many.

I don't treat my LGS like it is the Goodwill. It is not a charity and if they mark up because $10 (a 28.75% profit) is not enough, they would lose my business and loyalty. An action also known as capitalism.

They have the right to charge whatever. The consumer has the right to consume elsewhere. The loss of loyalty would hurt the LGS far more than not making more than a 28.57% profit on one item IMO.

Think of your local LGS as a plainswalker...it has a certain amout of "loyalty", if you will. Some can ultimate more often than others.

Lol. Mine is Ajani then because they just get better and better. Most of what I put is what the owner of the LGS told me how he feels about it all when I asked his thoughts on it.

BlackJester

Yeah, I'm fine with them charging whatever they want, I just don't like them reneging on a deal. Even if it is only $5.

Actually, ESPECIALLY if it's only $5.

Rass

Yep it's like looking over a menu. Ordering a t-bone steak for $15 and waiting. They bring it out and tell you now it's gonna be $45

Prophylaxis

Why sell it for $35 when you know most of your buyers will turn around and sell it for $100 on eBay?

Rass

Limit it 1 per customer and your regulars have first crack at them.

Rass

Just saying I spend a lot of money at my lgs. And bring in people who would never go there except that I bring them. If they take care of me I'll take care of them
