My cousin has a deck built around these, and keening stone, and all the other mill nonsense lol

Does purity prevent combat damage, my cousin argues that creatures are spells so therefore the damage from their attack should be prevented, who's right?

If a card has trample and it's blocked by an indestructible creature, does the trample still work? In my case it was primordial hydra vs. stuffy doll.
