Title: Evil twin/clone
Post by: Imdowd80 on July 24, 2012, 09:23:17 PM
If I {clone} an {evil twin}. What happens?  Can I kill the evil twin with the clone? Or will I have to pick a new creature to clone that is then an evil twin clone that I can kill?  I'm not being wise, this happened te other night.

I would say U cannot clone the actual evil twin because that card doesn't exist anymore. U can clone the evil twin which in turn will give u a copy of whatever creature the evil twin copied and it will have the additional ability given by the evil twin. Then you can use that ability to destroy the evil twin copy or the original creature if it's still on the BF. But if you don't own the evil twin there's a good chance your Clone will get destroyed before you can destroy theirs. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Not 100% sure which is why I'm not gaveling.

Are we talking a plain Evil Twin that didn't copy anything, or one that is actually a copy of a different card?

Cloning a clone results in another copy of the target of the first clone.
Ex. Opponent {cackling counterpart}s his {insectile aberration}. You in turn {clone} his counter parted aberration. This results in a copy of a copy.

Now the same thing applies in your situation except there is the EvTw ability on the copy. This ability can only be activated when the creature loses summoning sickness or gains haste

Will it get the {Evil Twin}'s ability though?
Yes you posted while I was editing my post lol

An evil twin that is a copy of another creature.

Yeah, sure.  You got this.

Bonus:  If the Evil Twin didn't copy anything when it hit play (and is somehow still alive, let's say something's giving it +1/+1), then a Body double entering play as a copy of it will be able to chose a different creature on the board AND gain the "{U}{B},T:Destroy target creature with the same name as this creature." ability.

But, if the buffed twin is the only creature on the table, you'll copy it, it's 0/0 status, and if you have a buff too, you wouldn't gain the above ability.

And don't even ask about the interaction between Evil Twin and {Essence of the Wild}....

What is the interaction?

Essence makes everything that enters after it a copy of essence. So you can try and use the evil twin but it won't be able to copy anything because it's already a copy of essence.

I think the stacking of abilities is twins goes on first followed by essence's. Essence's resolves leaving the other stranded on the stack

I was always under the impression when two things happen at the exact same time that you get to choose which order they go on the stack.

I guess it could work that way but I'm not a rules guy

When two things would trigger, yes.  But if two replacement effects would replace the same event with something else, (say {Planar Void} and {Wheel of Sun and Moon}) the affected player decides which to apply, this doesn't use the stack.  Similar idea, just want to be clear.

Does {Essences of the Wild}'s ability go on the stack?

flight and grounded don't create replacement effects.

I was researching this one, and in 613.08 they give the example of a creature enchanted with both {Flight} and {Grounded}. The determination is that with two contradicting effects like these, you default to the last one applied in timestamp order. Wouldn't that apply here?
That is the interaction of static abilities.  Yes, timestamp (most recent on the Battlefield) order applies.

I'm working on the wall of text about EofW and the Twin.  It's an interesting rules interaction, but not simple.

the player or controller of the affected object chooses which replacement effect comes into place first.

From what I'm seeing, the Comprehensive Rules didn't have an example for contradicting replacement effects. My gut reaction is that they would follow timestamp, since they do not use the stack.

We've had the ruling for some time, I'm just working on trying to explain ET and the EotW.

If you copy an Evil Twin that's a copy of third creature, your copy will be of the third creature with Evil Twin's ability.

Confirmed.
