I'd like to start a mafia game. I'm going to copy and paste the basic rules in different posts. I will be the moderator. There is space for 12 people. Post here to sign up

In its simplest form, Mafia consists of two sides: the Mafia, and the Town. The Mafia's goal is to kill the innocents, while the Town's goal is to kill the Mafia.
At the beginning of the game, the Moderator will secretly send everyone their role. The Mafia will know each other, while (in the basic game) everyone else will only know their own role.
The game has two phases, the first of which is Day. During Day, the Town must choose someone to Lynch; they are trying to eliminate the Mafia, but the Mafia can lead them astray by casting suspicion elsewhere. Generally, players will vote for someone they think is Mafia (the Mafia will vote so that they seem to be doing this as well, and might even vote for each other to confuse the Town); when a player gets a majority of the votes, they are lynched. Their role is revealed by the Moderator, and it becomes Night.
During the Night, the thread is locked and no one can talk publicly. The Mafia, however, can speak to each other privately to plot strategy and decide who to murder before the next Day begins. In this way, they can silence members of the Town who are threats to them. At the end of the Night, the murder is carried out and another Day begins. In effect, the Town gets to kill someone, and then the Mafia gets to kill someone.
The game alternates between Day and Night until either the Mafia are eliminated, or the Mafia have killed everyone else (or nothing can prevent the same).
Special roles:
Cop - Each Night, the Cop can investigate one player (by sending their name to the Moderator), and the Moderator will tell them whether that player is Mafia or not.
Doctor - Each Night, the Doctor can choose one player to protect (by sending their name to the Moderator). If the Mafia (or anyone else) tries to kill that player, that kill will be prevented.

I think that before we start lynching like it's 1999, everyone should say who they suspect (but not vote yet), and why. Also, give everyone a chance to defend. Take it easy...we've got all...uh, life to do this game. So let's not be so quick to throw the lives of other townsfolk away.

This does sound reasonable enough. I'll pull my vote back (for now) but still suspect dark arts for 1 legit reason and 1 dumb reason. Dumb reason is that his name is dark arts and having him be the sneaky night-stalking killer would be ironically funny to me. Legit reason (at least to me) is he's being real quiet since he got more votes...I suspect all the quiet ones. Whispering...plotting...

When I was younger I majored in criminal phycology, abd let me tell you...those two have all the signs of criminals! Being quiet, waiting for the storm to pass over their heads; reverse phycology! They are just waiting for the night to come so they can pounce on their first victim!
And what about Proph? Have you not seen him at the bank every thursday? You think that's money he's getting, or a note with the name of the next victim written on it? Suspicious if you ask me...criminals often have patterns you can notice if you watch closely enough.

I think really that the fact of the matter is just that we don't have enough evidence to pinpoint one person as mafia! CV is right! Just because he is saying certain things does NOT make him part if the mafia! I take this all in fun and with no personal insult, I think that we should all take it that way, because when someone votes for you doesn't mean they have anything against you or that they don't like you, it's simply a guess that they are making at someone who might be part of (in this case) fictional organization! I am almost surprised that a few people here have taken this do seriously! I think all that the intention of this was was for ripple to join and have fun, I think we should try to respect that and not take any personal insult. I'm sorry to anyone I might have offended in this, but it seems like this might be taken a little to seriously. The games of Ready Aim Fire and Mafia are two totally different games. Since I'm trusting that Milo109 uses random.org to randomize the roles, there should be no speculation about who gets which role outside of the game.

Mafia is a game about teamwork. You need cooperation and you need to sway people to see your way. You can't just play in a little sub-game with yourself; you'll get lynched.
The bolded is also called bussing, where you see your scum buddy getting lynched and you add to the vote.

What of this Badluckirish chap? He shows up, eager to throw dark arts under the bus before any of us, and disappears into the night. And I know from personal experience he can't be trusted. Not long ago I was sipping a mocha latte, when suddenly he lurched from the darkness and shoved me into a compressing garbage truck. Suspicious behavior, I say!

I think that there should be some rule against editing since it destroys the purpose of the game.

In my studies (what studies I have), the mafia likes to make their actions appear random and unrelated, though there is definite organization behind it. Anyone can observe this if he or she be willing to think critically.
If those three are the mafia, we must take them out one by one. The mafia has strength in numbers. Ever seen a head mafia make an assasination by himself?

Indeed. I was thinking of doing something similar in ready aim fire:
Post "shootself" or "shoot -name-" on the thread and then remove it after about 20 seconds, hoping someone saw that will tell everyone. Then do the opposite. Or "accidentally" PM the wrong person to get his mind going in weird directions. I thought this to be too borderline cheating though. Lol

Fair enough. My edit was just to remove a couple names from the list of people who I thought hadn't posted yet after I realized they had, and that I am super observant. I'll add new posts to fix such mistakes here on out instead of edits, even though the OCD in will go crazy :P

I just did rants to get into the game! I want to build a character for myself; it makes the game more interesting.
And actually, CbStrad did say something. He has posted 3 times. Two of his posts vote for people to be lynched. The reasons? For his first suspect the reason he stated was:

Excellent points, I sy also mention that sagemaster seemed to be defending CbStrad, if the mafia knows who each other are, then sagemaster is a suspect as well!

I remembered that Gorzo and Proph played before JaCe is 6 years old so he would be posting more and you were the only one in the thread that seemed to fit the details. Your reply was a little nondefensive though so I am still thinking you are part of it.

1) the mafia don't want to be found out because...

Given these obvious facts, we can conclude that:
3) the mafia will remain silent as to not arouse suspicion, until...
4) the mafia must defend themselves because someone accused them.
Why? Because of 1 and 2 (the mafia do not want to be found out and the mafia do not want to die).
CbStrad fits all of these points: he was hidden until accused and only now speaks up to defend himself. The most common way of defending one's self is to throw the attention to someone else. Most likely the person who talks the most, because it is somethig that everyone can agree on (but not something that should necesarily warrent suspicion).

Well put!! There is still suspicion in my mind of ntheawesome, simply because he has hardly showed himself here at all, but also hasn't been accused, so what happens if he is?

Yes, but if you're more involved in the discussion if you're mafia, then you get called out on more, and have a higher chance of getting lynched than if you made a few high-content posts.
The cost of getting lynched is much greater to the mafia.

I think you have the wrong idea for one post, though. The reason I retracted my vote was not just to follow the suit of an experienced player, but because I realized that the nature of the game was different than what I thought it was. Here's what I mean:
When I have played mafia, daytime has had little discussion. Basically people just say who they vote for and then it's killing time again (yes song reference). And then I learned about the whole random thing. So basically, I realized that I was doing it wrong. That's why I retracted my vote; I had previously given myself no chance for discussion, and also I had reasons for voting that were not valid.
So...I don't see how that would merit "scum points". But hey, your the Proph here. I'm just the guy being examined. Take your time by the way. If you are going to examine me, do it on a good night's sleep and a happy belly! Since you are an experienced player, people will listen to you. So make sure you don't misrepresent me. Or maybe someone more in the middle ground to make it seem less obvious. But badluckirish? He was just the fifth vote on the large pile. No reason really to kill him if I was a mafia.

Yes, it would. In fact, doctors can affect the game even if they aren't in the game. The mere threat of a doc protect, even if a doctor doesn't exist, is enough to goad the scum elsewhere.

I voted proph cause by analyzing everyone he draws attention away from himself though he frequently posts and cause its the second time he's voted me haha. And where do you find the answers to my qs? I scoured the first few pages like 3 times and didn't notice answers....thanks for waiting to hear back from us though...
EDIT: I just realized he voted for me after I voted him but my reasoning still stands and I want to vote him back for voting me.

Indeed it was hasty but I decided to toss my vote so I could hear others opinions.. Sadly that was the wrong decision haha. I also forgot that we cant switch votes like "yesterday.." so swapping was a big mistake on my part haha. Some interesting points brought up. The doctor call I'm not really sure about. It is a little fishy, but I can see where he's coming from. He is the only one with any experience, so I can see why he'd seek protection - id see that as threatening. I can see the strategy behing asking for a doctor, but getting one or not is another story.
Sage I dunno about. He is quite quick to vote for the current "hot topic" to lynch, which really does look like he doesn't care who dies, any townie will do, which is pretty fishy.
Jace looks suspicious to me too. Comes in extremely fast to vote, and changes his vote quick, which also raises that "anyone other than me and my mafia pals will do" red flag for me.

I am deeply saddened... I was actually being serious when I said I wanted you to live. I believe you are a townie, and we need our fellow townies to live if we want to beat the mafia. That's why we cant just bandwagon vote.
As for Irish, I only mentioned him more to get a rise out of him since he hadn't said much since voting (I lol'd at that coffee comment btw), and wanted more people to get involved. Didn't want him dead. It would also draw attention straight to myself to kill him, as the only person who showed suspicion of him. Maybe that's why they chose him, thought they could get a free Gorzo-lynch out of it. 2-for-1.

I agree, I think next game (or next day perhaps) we should add a rule that votes are final, it would make people think more about who/why they are casting their votes, and increase the impact of sending one. I've been holding onto my vote, I think after the totally random 1st day pick, sending a vote actually should mean something final.
I'm not sure who I suspect most at this point. I think everyone has done at least one thing that can be seen as suspicious, but I can't tell just yet who is being sincere and who is toying. Sage seems the most desperate to push eyes off of himself, but I'm not willing to enter my vote on that alone. Yet. I'm still suspicious of CbStrad too, who has been far too quiet after suspicions seem to have him. Feeling like he dodged a bullet (or hangman's noose) maybe? I wonder if Irish was taken in the night just for that, to throw us off the trail we were starting to look down. I still suspect cb and Ntheawesome.

I could care less if a couple people are at my back because if I get lynched then I would be a minor loss to the town. Scum, however, may overreact to a single vote. That's an example of scum play.

In almost every online game mafia are referred to as scum. No vote count for right now, it's to big of a state of flux, there isn't more than 1 vote for anyone, if you want to know exactly what happened, read back

However, on top of all that's going on, and all of my previous suspicious, such a huge dread of being in the limelight just feels like too much to me. If you're innocent, why be so afraid of prying eyes? My vote stands.
My thoughts on the rest, well, it's been pretty well covered while I was away today (yay FNM draft - pulled me a {cavern of souls}! And stomped with a play set of {riot ringleader}s and {thatcher's revolt}s!). All I have to add:
- I keep wondering is proph is only seeming suspicious to me because he is the only experienced player, and that in and of itself makes him look iffy, or if he actually is mafia and is using that experience to his advantage. Either way his experience makes him look bad, and I can't tell which.
- thorn, nothing that hasn't been said already. He is on my suspect list, 3rd from the top maybe?
- CbStrad, like I said before, high on my list. Dodged the bullet after saying sounding kinda scummy in round 1, and after narrowly surviving, stays hidden, not to attract attention. This just doesn't sit well with me AT ALL. 2nd top of my list.

Ok about the fellow townies I do have a resonabal explenation. Hypothetically lets say I'm the mafia. What am I going to do, "Oh you townspeople just go kill the mafia"
No of course not! I'm going to say what is not an immediate give-away. Now, hypothetically again, lets say I'm a townie. What possible motives could I have for saying I'm a mafia. Of course I'll say I'm a townie everyone does. If I say I'm not one I immediately get lynched or killed. Last time, still hypothetically, lets say I'm a special, nurse, cop, if I don't say I'm a townie then mafia kill me cause I have the power to heal the wounded or find out who they are.
So back to the real world
I have no choice but to say I'm a townie all other options are instant death. The point of this game is to LIVE !!!!!!
So thats my defense...
Jace seems more suspicious the more I read him...I will be gone for the morning/afternoon today but when I get back I'll try to look some more...in the meantime keep thinking.

Okay so...not voting yet...still. But anyways, here is some info on jace.
- He has previous mafia experience (see post 1)
- He displayed odd reverse-physology type stuff in post 3.
- He voted for me at the start because I was doing things in another game on the forums. I don't know why...maybe just to be funny. Who knows...
- When day 2 began, he PMed me to ask me if I was alive or not. This may be a sign of mafia because they want to kill me, or just an honest question (it was confusing a bit when I almost got voted to be lyched).
(I can give a screenshot of my PMs if neccesary...but treat it as asking someone to count the number of cards in their library..if you know what I mean lol)
- He is was the first to respond that the mafia killed badluckirish.

If there are 11 voters, there are 2 votes still outstanding. If both vote for sage or both for jace, they will have a tie at 4 for majority with thorn. If just one of them votes thorn, he has majority.

I remember loop saying in the ready-aim-fire game thread that he will not be coming around the forums very often anymore, so he probably won't come to vote (I'll see if I can find that post of his and add the quote in)
If that's the case and loop is a null-vote, miscount or not, whoever the last person votes for, thorn will still have the most votes.
