{Deathrite Shaman} is banned in Modern!
{Wild Nactl} and {Bitterblosom} unbanned!
It was then that all Golgari players shed a single tear.
:(
I was sad for a second then realized, "shaman was the bane of my existence, this is a good thing"

Yeah, and I have 5.... They will likely fall in price, although retain some of their value due to Legacy.
Where did you read this? Can't find the new annoucement anywhere.

Sigh... Wtf are they thinking? I'm in full favor of unbanning Nacatl. And I'm even fine with banning Deathrite. But unbanning Bitterblossum? Are they stupid? That card is unbelievable degenerate to the format, it's way too powerful.
Less and less interested in modern... I'm sticking to EDH and limited.
And the tears of all those {Deathrite Shaman} hoarders begin to fall. Kind of annoyed that Jund took a hit, but I guess I'll just jam {Bitterblossom} instead.
Hooray kitty being unbanned! Maybe Zoo can become relevant again.

SAME.
Good thing I was thinking USA in modern...
Although Blitterblossum will probably replace the Shaman in most builds
Just read tye article. Daang! It kind of makes sense though, deathrite was a 4-of in many decks because of its ability to do well...everything.
Why would they unban bitterblossom?!
I'm excited for the unban on nacatl, time to make a fun zooish deck!
Deathrite, I usually have an answer for it, really didn't see that ban coming...

The printing of {Abrupt Decay} reduces the fear most people should have of {Bitterblossom} anyway. Considering it hasn't actually been legal in the format, it's too soon to call it "unbelievably degenerate"
I'm happy with the bans/unbans but as a player who has never played modern before idk why they had to ban Shaman like who cares that it's a 4-of in a variety of decks? The last few tourneys didn't combo decks like Splinter Twin win? Or UWR Control? Both those lists run {Cryptic Command} will that be banned too?
I'd like to point out that Burn was also using Shaman. It's sad when a BG card is literally just a better {Grim Lavamancer}.

Yeah, and that's basically wizards' point. The ban will allow players to innovate, other cards to shine, etc. little sad to see Deathrite, but it was a card that was powerful at any stage of the game. It's not that insane of a card, I could see it unbanned down the road when the format shifts a little more. It's definitely not time to unload 'em ;)
Again, the trend continues, wizards is not afraid to ban something in modern.
{Deathrite Shaman} is a good ban, the card is too good and Jund is too powerful, but I am still emotionally attached to the card so I wish this didn't happen.
U/B fairies all the way

{Mistbind Clique} is also moving up.

{Voice of Resurgence}, {Lightning Helix}, Vengeant possibly?
Is it also banned in standard too?
Nope and he won me a few games with my kind build last night
Maybe I need some clarification... Why ban stuff in modern? Aren't there more responses because there are more cards available? Won't that make people find responses for it? Or is it lazy deck development and lowest common denominator?
If a card is used in every deck that top 8s tournaments, it usually gets attention of the dci ban crew

Yes, while it didn't place 1st, it was 4ofs in all the BGx decks and that variations (eg junk Jund) were consistently top 8ing. My only issue with the ban is there isn't really a card that can fill that role that Shaman provided. At least when they banned {Bloofbraid Elf} there were other four drops like {Thrun, the Last Troll} {Huntmaster of the Fells}

Hierarch is just an exalted {Llanowar Elves} in Jund... Not really all that great in that spot, IMO.
Unfortunately {Noble Hierarch} is the best we've got, it's price is a reflection of demand, speculators, etc. it's truly a terrible replacement for Deathrite. Hierarch's price is also the result of its usefulness in zoo decks.

^^Agree. If you truly think that {Noble Hierarch} is a replacement for {Deathrite Shaman}, you are kidding yourself.

Noble Hierarch can work in Pod, and Pod gets better with less GY hate. I'm just wondering if this brings a wave of Vengevine and Gifts decks
😱 Hope not, We still have ooze!

It's why {Mental Misstep} and {Jace, the Mind Sculptor} are banned
This is a ridiculous claim, as Deathrite is not as warping as Misstep or as powerful as Jace. It didn't break anything, it just did a ton as a one drop.

I have to agree with this. Shamen is a creature, and there is enough counters, direct damage, and other instants and sorcerers to deal with it.
Mental Misstep is a first turn counter spell when the caster is on the draw.
Jace is just insane, and there is only now getting to be counters and such to specifically deal with planes walkers.

Jace and {Mental Misstep} broke the fornat, but {Deathrite Shaman} broke jund. Every other top tier deck is there because it has a good jund matchup, which was a pretty good sign that something was broken.

It wasn't as broken as before, but it still made up most of the meta. Jund and its counterparts, Junk and The Rock have made up almost 30% of all top 8's in the past 2 months of live tournaments, which is more than double the second best deck, UW/x midrange, and triple the third, Splinter Twin.

Cards are not banned based on how easy they are to remove. They are banned on how mandatory it is to remove them. Not only was deathrite shaman a mana fixer, but it made it so that you had to remove it, or else it would continue to easily create value for its controller, while pinging you and depleting your recources at the same time.
Also, since every G/B/x deck ran 4 {Deathrite Shaman}, {Snapcaster Mage} and other graveyard related creatures like {Knight of the Reliquary} (and to a lesser extent, {Kitchen Finks}) became unreliable, often having to be boarded out game 2.
Deathrite did far too much damage and its banning will cause format diversity, deck-building innovation, and will allow cards that it inadvertedly hated out to see more play.
