Title: 3rd Place!
Post by: LadyGrixis on October 24, 2013, 01:48:19 AM
Went 4-1 with my Gruul Stomp deck tonight! Third place with pulls of {Medomai the Ageless}, {Ashen Rider}, {Xenagos, the Reveler}, and {Nighthowler} from my prize packs! :D My only loss was to a RDW, which  not upset about because they're so lame lol. So YAY!!!!

Sidenote: This was my first time competing in a Standard tournament. Fun stuff!

That's awesome, I love gruul it's so much fun to play, btw how do you view your trade binder so I can see if I have anything you would want to trade for your Xenagos? Sort of new so I haven't fully gotten the run around on this app yet lol

Edahlan - Lady Grixis has her binder posted on another website. I'm sure she'll give ya the link. Otherwise it would be in her profile page. You could get there by clicking the pic under her name.

Congratz on the victory and the pulls LG! I plan on running Gruul soon.

Thank you! The Mistcutter & the Stormbreath really did most of the work, and the Mortars & Ruric Thar cleaned up around the edges when things got messy :)

Awesome deck!! But no love for {Domri Rade}? 😢

I may still Sideboard him, but he just really doesn't run fast enough or work with as much synergy as Xenagos & Garruk do. I can explode mana and tokens with Xeny and snatch up all of my Stormbreaths and Mistcutters with Garruk. And believe me, I've playtested the MESS out of this deck to make sure that the Planeswalkers in it are helpful/worthy of being a part of the deck.

True but a T2 Domri leads into the draw that you need to replenish your hand IMO. Like Garruk obviously is better at draw but he's a 6 drop so he's relatively slow even with your ramp. Anyways just my opinion.

And I bet it's awesome for you to see that your preparation paid off!!

To each their own. By turn 3, I can have most anything I need out and crashing around. I'm just so happy with this deck that I could cry.

Mhmmm nice build but still I would find a place for Arbor Colossus and Nykthos... with more devotion ro green the hydra would be cast stronger and also cracking Polukranos for more could be quite useful...;)
But of course those are only few ideas of mine...;)

Of course congratulations to the 3rd place...;)

Faced Red Deck Wins & Lost
Then faced the following & Won:
Azorius Heroic
Azorius Control
Izzet Control/Burn
Black Devotion/Pack Rat Deck

While those are good ideas, I fear those more costly drops would slow down my deck. It's built for speed and I can always chump block with a smaller Hydra. I may sideboard those cards though.

I did not count towards ur cards for devotion but still I think you could benefit from {Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx}...;) even without Colossus in deck...:)

And anyway Arbor Colossus is 5 cmc... you could cut Stormbreath Dragon to 3, Ruric to 3 and add two colossuses... Cut two lands add two Shrines and I guess you would benefit from that...;) But of course it would have to be tested...;)

Yikes! Stormbreath stays at 4, lol. That card alone won me the majority of those games. Ruric Thar gets cut down with I add in Anger of the Gods or Bow of Nylea, and since I'm not running straight mono Devotion, Nykthos just doesn't seem all that helpful.

But again, I'll sideboard them perhaps.

I don't necessarily see the shrine as all that helpful.  However maybe a duo of {mutavault} for tricks, outlets, and pressure

Interesting how people are so stubborn about cuting playsets of good cards to three... The probability of drawing the card does not lower that much...;) But I get ur point...:) As I said only an idea...:) Of course yu must know what is best for your deck and against the meta you play...:)

Yeah just.one mountain and one forest perhaps. Options are nice.  And can really help legion loyalists take off of you side them in. Bow could drop counters on them as well.

No {{Ghor-Clan Rampager}}? That card is sweet in the esper control match and they have Elspeth and Heliod pumping out tons of chump blockers.

Didn't go up against a full-on Mono White or a Weenies deck. So I'm not sure how that would play out.

Actually those would be in a control deck, especially Elspeth.

I went against two Azorius that ran Elspeths, Detention Spheres, Hoplite Heroics, Tokens, Bestows, and all that jazz. Didn't really have a problem. And although Ghor-Clan is good, I didn't particularly need him.

VERY similar actually, except he was running Detention Spheres, Supreme Verdicts, Elspeths, and that damn Hopeful Eidolon that he kept enchanting to his Phalanx Leader. Lifelink and triggers like a boss.

I love having 2 phalanx out and casting {Coordinated Assault} and targeting both :)

At instant speed.
