Ok now I have no idea where to put this because I think it's more of a legal matter but I got a call from the owner of my local shop saying that they were permenately banning me from the store. I asked why and he told me that it's just not for me and the way I carry myself isn't right for the store. I asked him what that meant and if I said/did anything wrong he sai no but he just didn't like the way I carried myself. I have single handedly gotten 15 people into magic and they're all regular customers there because of it. I asked the other players and no one has any idea what the cause is. So my question is can he legally not allow me to participate in a public event like an fnm with no probable cause? The only thing I can think of is that someone tipped him off about me spreading rummers of a new shop opening up soon close by but I beer said anything in the store.
Damnnnn
You could try to tip WOTC off and see if they can do anything. That being said, it is his store and I believe that store owners reserve the right to refuse service. That still sux and is total BS IMO.
Legally ? Yes he can deny you from being in hi store. But that saying another shop opening near by may have gotten to his ear, not fair or cool, but could be the reason .
Yeah what sucks is the new shop opened this weekend but the first fnm isnt utill mid July.
I have no idea what to do. I mean it was completely out of the blue I just went to Saturday night magic last Saturday and he didn't say a thing, I thanked him when I left like I normally do he said see ya later Al and that was the end of it and now this. I just can't fathom it.
Eh. Just shrug it off. Sh** happens. When life gives you lemons, go play golf or something like that
Yea he denies you and the business u gave to him. Move on ;)
Lmao funniest thing yet, I talked to a kid that's been going there for about 5 years now, and he got banned about a year ago for legitimently no reason. Apparently his track season started and he couldn't come to the shop to play anymore and the owner thought he was boycotting and going to a different store so he banned him XD
I understand wanting loyalty to your shop but banning people like that will only result in his shop having low return results
A simple communication with the owner via email is good, keep communication like that logged. You can leave a yelp review and if properly written will behoove others from using his service. Reviews are really good for judging places, even just seeing how a manager responds to complaints.
What you should do is go back and demand an explanation in a calm collected way. There has to be something your leaving out like being balligerent or saying offensive comments he may have heard. I am not judging you I'm sure your a good guy but you had to have offended him somehow. If you explain that you would like to apologize for whatever you may have done and explain that you would be happy to tone it down or whatever he may wish I can't see it being denied. If that doesn't work you can always tell him that you also have rights and one of those is to picket his store and leave flyers and do what you must to not let this happen to another. Lastly if you are a minority you can also go the route of saying you believe it to be descrimination and that you will not tolerate such racism. I'd go with doing it like a man and going in and speaking to him in person one on one.
If that doesn't work you really should sit back and think what Brian boitano would do and that answer is probably kick ass or two. Yes that's what Brian Boitano'd do. I know that's probably the answer everyone was thinking I just wanted to make sure we were all on the same page. Haha.

I just throw them back at life. I don't want his melons. They could be poisonous. I then demand to see life's manager.
I am very sorry about that, meant to quote, not modify. -Flicker
I say cut the losses, one of the great things about being a free country is you can choose to shop anywhere, just as he can choose who to let shop at the store he controls. It's his choice, he can boot you for just about any reason (race, sexual orientation, etc... Excluded). He may have received complaints from other customers, he may have caught wind of you promoting a competitor (which I would 100% boot you for) or you may have simply worn a shirt he didn't like. In the end it's his choice, but in the end, you also have the right to promote this new store. You do not have the right to devalue his store with lies, but you CAN devalue his store with truth. I say give your business to the new store, and promote it with out devaluing the old store. If he chooses to ban customers for petty reasons, he will soon put himself out of business anyways.

I don't want your damn melons. Demand to see life's manager, and make him take the melons back! In fact, I'll invent a combustable melon. Then I'm gonna burn life's house down. WITH THE COMBUSTABLE MELONS!!!
Sorry, I had to bring portal into this. :)
I am also sorry for modifying another post, and putting it on theirs.
It's cool, I think.

Do not do this. He told you you're banned from his shop and that is legally a warning. If he sees you step foot in his shop, no matter how calm you are, he can call the po po on you. That wouldn't be good. My advice is to wait out the new shop opening and then give them your business. If after a few months you want to go back to the old shop, call him and try to sort things out. You're fortunate enough to have multiple shops (unlike Shreveport, LA,) so I wouldn't sweat it if one store owner wants to be a Richard.
Ok last post on the matter simply because thanks to speaking to some of the fellow shop members, I found out why. When modern masters came out we ask the owner if he could host a modern masters draft for us because we wanted to and he told us no. So I decided that If I could get enough people together I would host my own draft. Now they don't even sell MM in boxes they only sell the packs at $15 a pack so I told everyone that if they paid me in advance I could get a box on eBay and divide it out so instead of $45 a piece it would be $31. Well he didn't like that and that's why he banned me. I got banned for hosting a draft that he refused to host and for buying merchandise online that he doesn't even sell in bulk.
You got banned cuz hes a piece of feces basically

Don't trip
He's gonna send his own business down the hole. Punishing people for shopping somewhere else because he doesn't carry the goods is absurd
That's HORRIBLE!
That is pretty bad. Unless u solicited in his store
Well that's just rude. You should be happy with not giving a doucher like that anymore money.
"Sorry, but you're banned from Wa-Mart for buying groceries at Target last week."
Personally I think you should convince people not to shop there if he's just going to ban them anyways.

No that would be malicious of him and not the right thing, a simple yelp review and Facebook page review can do a lot. Let the owner drown himself in his miseries
Yeah I'm just saying I'd get PO'd if I got banned for something like that.
For something like what? He didn't do anything...
Exactly.
Well most game shops I would hope aren't so bad. This makes me hesitant to go to any now :/
This thread has enraged me. RAGE!!!!

Actually my game shop owner is really nice. When i was 13 he wasn't sure if he had enough booster boxes so he gave me the promo. I did eventually buy a box though.

If you're gonna do it, do it right. Cave doesn't want combustible melons. He wants combustible LEMONS.
Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!
In life, sometimes it's better to just "eat it". What I mean by that is when someone does you wrong, do not retaliate against them. You may think that you need make things right or restore justice, but it will be better for you in the end if you let it go.
Think of it logically: if someone strikes out against you for no good reason, what makes you think that you can make things right by reasoning with that person? They struck first, not you. So trying to fix the problem will only escalate things further. It's pretty unfortunate and sad, but I recommend going to another shop.
When I say don't retaliate, I mean don't take direct action like confronting the shop owner. By all means give the place a bad review online and maybe your friends will go with you to another shop. I know that one of my friends would for sure change shops with me if he knew the shop owner did something like that.
Good luck with your situation, hope it all works out in the end.
