Title: Gideon champion of Justice
Post by: Missingkirby34 on April 07, 2013, 05:19:26 AM
This thread is my rant on why I think he is extremely underrated. My friend and I constantly get into this argument and I want to see your opinions.
Personally I love Gideon, he is great against aggro decks (I.e. most Simic decks) and I'm fairly certain he is viewed as almost no threat at all, so he basically sits there and builds counters (from what I've seen). Sure he's no vraska, or domri, but in times he can pull through and drastically turn the game around, and other times, he could be used as a scapegoat, if your opponent sees he is becoming to big, they will go after him, giving you one more turn. Just my opinion on him feel free to voice your own!

I partly agree, in few builds he can be killing machine... I do play him in Bant and he is perfect there.... Especially against agrro decks...;) but he can be game saver also against controls... Swinging for five each turn with undestructible creature... He is playable but as I said in certain builds...;)

He's the first planeswalker got 2 of by ripping them from packs. :-\ he's fine when your opponents playing tokens. (hehe) So ya if I rated him in stars I think he would be 3 1/2 or so...

But he could get much better once future sets come out, he does obviously smash tokens.

Gideon is situational at best, and never good enough to be worth the effort. Sure he DOES something, but I believe he is rated just fine - below average. He is worse then a Keyrune.

You can say that about any card ever printed - also, he probably isn't the best card in decks that he's in. Too many answers to him.

Well yes but if populate gets big in dragon's maze then he could become a real threat to some decks.

As I said in few builds... Honestly can come up only with one good build...;) fog...;) I love him in that deck turn 4-5 drawing bcs of {Garruk, Primal Hunter} 6-8 cards and swinging with him...;)

I remember Coffee Vampire had an old Deck that have the opponent lots of creatures and then he would  {Batwing Brume} to win. That would be a great deck to use Gideon in

I like him in my orzhov deck. At the very least he is a distraction, at most he gets up to about 20-25, ults, and starts swinging while we both try to get mana out. He is really good, especially against control and midrange

Just like {vraska the unseen}, he just needs a good home, though ironically it's not in Boros.

I don't drop him ASAP, why would I? By that same merit, shouldn't you wait to play jace until you can counter their threats?

Gideon buffs himself to ward off the hit, works the same as jace slowing them down almost

Most creatures that are played in standard are "value creatures". There are not a whole lot of 1/1's.  On turn 4 or 5 creatures usually have power bigger than 1, so if you +1 for 2 or 3 creatures that have 3, 4, or 5 power, he doesn't protect himself very well.

So you wouldn't be blocking? I just don't see them attacking unless they were all attacking already.

What I'm saying is that he doesn't protect himself very well.   {Sorin, Lord of Innistrad} +1 poops out a 1/1 blocker to protect himself.   {Garruk Relentless} +0 poops out a 2/2 blocker to protect himself.   {Tamiyo, the Moon Sage} +1 taps down a potential attacker to protect herself.  {Liliana of the Veil} +1 discard a potential threat,  -2  sacrifice a potential attacker to protect herself.   {Garruk, Primal Hunter} +1 poops out a 3/3 blocker to protect himself.

{Guardian of the Gateless} maybe if Gideon had this ability

I'd rather go with this angel + {frontline medic} than gideon

Only works when blocking, and Gideon can't block.
