How exactly do auras work with shroud and targeting?
Thanks.
Auras target, and are subject to immunities that protect against targeting, like shroud.
Unless an ability "puts" them into play such as {sun titan}.
So how does Zur work then?
I mean can you add auras to it if Zur has shroud?

Yep! Zur gets around shroud, whether its on himself or other permanents.

So even if he has shroud, I can choose to have an aura enchant him assuming its attached after searching my deck?
But I could not play an aura from my hand if Zur has shroud, at least not on him.?

Correct. Auras that are cast have a target. When Zur just "puts them into play", the aura has to attach to something, provided there's a legal target. This process doesn't target anything, and gets around shroud. It's a nasty abuse of the rules, but it works!

Ok. Last ?. What if there is another legal target, can I still choose Zur??

Can't target a creature with Shroud, neither you nor your opponent.
Ok so if I pull {Journey to Nowhere} with Zur could I target {Animar, Soul of Elements}?

No journey is not an aura. It has a targeting etb effect.

Ok but something like {Prison Term} would work?

Yes. It works with auras, since in order for them to remain on the field, they have to be enchanting something. They serve no other purpose. So when you "cheat" then into play, like with Zur, the game more or less "forces" them into enchanting something, if there are legal targets. Since this is the case (as opposed to you casting it), the process doesn't target anything.

Actually still no because of the specific target in question. Animar has protection from white and therefore, cannot be enchanted by white cards by any means.

Yeah scars is right. You may get around the original targeting issue but it doesn't solve the "it falls off anyway cause I'm pro white" problem
Sorry about that guys, I had forgotten Animar was in the equation. Thought it was just a general "would this work" question. Scars is indeed right, protection will save Animar.

No, but I have been considering taking the tests to become one. I'll probably at least start in the near future. It'd be pretty cool to be official!

I've been trying to become a rules advisor but it's a lot harder than I realized.. I hope to accomplish it this summer with the help of some local judges

I certainly will! You'll have an easier time because you seem to have an intricate knowledge of the rules already

Why thank you! It's been a bit of hard work, and really starts with knowing what to research. Once you do that enough, you just start to remember the rules, for convenience sake. Some of the trickier ones aren't so hard, once you figure out what rules to apply. I like it though, it's good to have a firm grasp on how the game works. You can use that knowledge to abuse the stack to your advantage against your opponents 😈
