Why does it get to copy the CMC as well? Saw someone copy {Thragtusk} and then {Birthing Pod} the image for a {Sun Titan}. i call shenanigans. It copies the creature, but not the card, and should still have a CMC of 2.

It doesn't. The CMC continues to be 2.
it does, cmc is a copiable characteristic.
Clones become copies of the card, but the only thing it cant copy is both sides of a card. For example an imaged {huntmaster of the fells} cant flip over into a ravenger. So yes, image copies the cmc
List of copiable characteristics (Comp Rules 706.2):
-Name
-Mana cost
-Power
-Toughness
-Color
-Type, subtype, supertype
-Expansion Symbol (yes, it matters)
-Rules Text
-Loyalty

wait how does expansions symbols work with reprints?
Whatever expension symbol on the card is copied, and only that; copying a {Birds of Paradise} would't give your copied birds very symbol for each time it got reprinted
For instance:
If you use {Apocalypse Chime}, cards that are in homelands yet do not have the homelands symbol because it is a reprinted version will be safe.
What about the commander copy i have of {Vampire nighthawk}? :(

If its copying the card, i could understand copying the cmc. But copying the creature, thats different. In a game all about semantics, im surprised this distinction doesnt exist.
So would a copied homelands card get toasted by {apocalypse chime}?

The word creature is a distinction of what it's copying, it cant say card because tokens arent cards. A lot of these minor confusions stem from rulings on overlooked interactions and specifics by R&D
Simply because if it's on the battlefield it's considered a creature. If it's anywhere else (hand, graveyard, library) it's considered a creature card.
See {Disentomb} for "creature card".
