Wow how do you guys not know about this? That's the reason I bought 7-8 boxes of ZEN.
It was all over the news! (MTG news).

I started playing during zen, so I wasn't worried about getting alpha or beta cards. Prices and the P9 didn't mean anything to me :-\ Silly noob
Yea that's because they were rare as π©! Everybody at my LGS at the time, and the store itself probably collectively opened I'm guessing 125-150 boxes. And only one treasure. Can't remember what it was, but it was junk
Congrats to the OP though!
Thank them too for buying imtg.
I've heard accounts of "Buried Treasure" in ZEN boxes to go with the seth's theme.
WotC has not bought iMtG.
That's what I was referencing. Wizzards didn't buy imtg and you cannot get those cards from zen packs. If it was true there would be no zen boxes available to buy.

First part is right.
Second part is wrong. Zendikar did in fact have hidden treasures in the packs.
Any concrete evidence from wizzards?

Or maybe something that IMO could more likely happen a card from a recent set they are printing or working on got mixed in on accident to the set.
For example one of the new dual decks falls into the rtr.

Only real hard video proof I can find. Plus the rules update in which WOTC didn't even announce. It was supposed to be a huge surprise so of course there are barely any video proof.
Mistakes like that don't happen. When mistakes with card printing happen, it's on a much bigger scale because they deal with entire sheets of cards.
An LGS told me they sold a case of M13 (6 boxes) where the uncommons and rares were swapped. Boxes of boosters with 3 rares and one uncommon.
If a single out of place card finds its way into a booster, you can bet it was put there intentionally.

This is true. Didn't that happen with legions too? Or legends? Rarities were mixed up in the slots. Either way, I still can't believe people think this is an urban myth. And before people start jumping aroun saying oh I got this and this. There were only two BL's most of the treasures were straight junk

If they come out and publicly say "There are cards X, Y, and Z in boosters" it becomes less of a "magical moment" and just common-uncommon-rare-mythic rare-ΓΌber rare. And that's just not as sexy.
Treasure is more fun when it's hinted at and not spelled out.
I know. I'm part zombie. Just didn't see it going much further. Again I hope it's true I have an unopened zen box. I could really use a p9 or dual land they were saying people pulled. Oh for sure. Just hope the barcode has an "A" on the end. If so, you might find some hidden treasure. I opened 7 or 8 boxes, got nothing in treasure regards, but I sure made out like a fat cat with money rares and foil lands. I don't think WOTC will ever confirm or deny it. Sticking with the flavor of the set. Adds mystique.

I imagine they're not printed in modern frames or have a Zendikar set symbol. They're the actual cards from those sets. Worth the same as the regular ones.

Not even close. The treasures were already printed and old and played. Rumor has it WOTC bought a bunch from starcity to help with the ploy. But frankly, how could you sell an alpha card that already was an alpha card for more just because it was found in a ZEN booster? not even possible. And more over, why would you pay more just because some lucky person pulled it in a pack 16+ years after it was printed. No you sense make

My final comment will be this:
It's not faith in WotC (although I do respect them as a company). I think it more believable that this is a publicity stunt. The alternative is a coordinated international conspiracy run and maintained over a number of years by multiple parties (OP included) for no real benefit to themselves.
It would be orders of magnitude easier for WotC to just slip in some cards and let the community do the work than to fake the whole deal from multiple places on prerelease day and continue to perpetuate the myth.
It's not as though it costs them $3000 to print a {Black Lotus}, it's the same process as any other card.
Just sayin'
See all I was saying is someone may have gotten a card from a wrong set and it snowballed down a mountain to this like several other urban legends. One person finds a needle in a Pepsi can then twenty more fake that they did. Or that if you go to a bar meet some hot girl and kick it off. Then you wake up in a tub of ice to a phone call that your liver is missing.
See my previous statement on printing errors.
My father in law works at a printing factory things do happen.
I totally think, what BJ said, there was a guy in the factory playing an innocent game of magic and his card flew off into the machine and made its way to the OP. seems legit

Cause it's on the Internet.

And frankly there's no credibility. I'm biased because I was there when it happened. The OP will have none since, well, he can't prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did pull an {Ancestral Recal}. WOTC never confirmed or denied it. And as far as I can find, only one video shows it happening. I could even make a case for that video being fake. But I believe it from my first? Second? -hand experience.

Yep that's the one it's a long video but good he goes over all the sets and there macanics. It's called from ravnica to ravnica or something with that title. There is a part where he talks about puting old cards in new packs.

I'd say seen a little play Atleast...
Looked around online most of the day and from what I can find ANY of these "hidden treasures" that have been found have seen Atleast a little bit of play or wear of some kind. Which leads my to believe that either
A. Blackjester was right and someone's deck ended up in the packing machine
Or
B. Wizards bought cards from SCG or someone of the like and pulled a Publicity stunt to raise sales on Zendikar without having to over push advertising on the product more then normal
Or
C. Wizards employes went stupid and found sheets of cards packed away somewhere that wherent supposed to be and said "hey!!! Whoops let's get these out now!!"
Lol
I vote A. Seems most likely. :)
personally I think they would have done something like that to raise sales .. I know if I had a lot of money I would buy 20 or more first print zendikar boxes just to see if I would get one .. but that's just my opinion .. I doubt they were accidentally put in though

It's not as though there's one in every box. ;D
Best of luck to you though.
Updated
This kinda makes me want to go blow $140 or however much it was. I want a zendikar box...
First box done. Had some really badass pulls. No hidden treasure as of yet, but I have 1 more box to go do we will see what happens. Look above for my pulls from box 1.
I love your optimism, M^3. But I think your sample size is too small to either confirm or deny this claim.
"I bought two lotto tickets and didn't win. So the lottery is a sham and no one ever wins." ;)
Excellent pulls by the way. :D

I thought so too but I decided not to cause I have been in this game since beta and I love the way that the game has evolved since then and I don't wanna miss out on what happens in the future
Just a point, if they're not from the first print run, you won't get a treasure... And for 135... First print run boxes are at least 175

How can you tell the difference?
the box and packs have it printed somewhere what run it is.
Some first run boxes and cards are cheaper now as people realize the odds of getting treasure are crazy. $145 @ my loc game shop and you can get 3 packs for 14.45 on amazon of first run.

Yeah, I tried that and they wanted $25 just for shipping. π‘
If you're in the states you're fine, but heaven forbid you try an international order. π±
It's the far north what do you expect. Plus there is no reason to go there so they cannot piggyback them on tourioust planes.

So hold on a second...Wizards put fetchlands, full art lands AND P9 to sell boxes of Zendikar? That seems excessive...
the power 9 thing is a meh factor, you were very unlikely to get it.

Why do you think they are so much more $$$ than other boosters? ;)
I think Zen was the begging of the change to the NWO, a philosophical shift in how R&D operate. And by that I don't mean "what can we do to make more money", but more "how do we attract new players and make the game good for them while still keeping it great for the old-timers?"

Dang that stinks as international isn't tht much more expensive. Yeah everything I've ordered on there has been free shipping, but I'm in the states
Well that's weird, I was on amazon last night, and they were selling Zendikar fat packs for 139.99 and the booster box for Zendikar 140.00.
I bought 12 first run packs of zendikar off of amazon for around $4-5 a pack .. probably won't get a treasure but hopefully I get some cool cards and I'll take the land

That's an awful lot of fetches for one box, though...
Some one told me you average 4 fetches per box. I only opened one box. And I think it only had one fetch. But my cards are in storage so it might have more but none of the color I needed back then

Moneekah and I seem to think it averaged anywhere from 3-4, obviously some maybe have less and some might have a foil and contain more. Last time Moneekah and I bought Zendikar packs I think we opened 10 and got two fetches.
Nice. I might have to add some more facts to this I have a box that the wrapper tore some ( I think the cats) that is screaming to be opened.

The only thing I could think of is 24 of zen for 12 WW and 12 RoE. But even that might be a stretch.
