Another stupid question from someone not well versed in the rules.. You can't put the equip ability on the stack targeting slime and cause my ability to do nothing?

And why wouldn't you have switched the boots to slime and casts bellows on the guy with trample? Wouldn't that have been lethal? Not criticizing, just trying to learn.
