spell pierce is a nice add.  I am considering adding those plus force of will and daze to mine.  I will run the risk of giving my opponent the benefit of standstill but it is a risk that I think is worth it.  The spiketails and aether vial are just not fast enough to get rid of those early threats.  Besides the standstill can be played after I counter the first good card they drop and then rely on the spiketails with aether vial.

How's that?

The wording on standstill says play a spell not casts a spell.  Therefore it will not resolve until the spell resolves.  So of you counter their spell you will start another standstill trigger and they will draw 3.

Is that what your asking?

Well the wording makes it sound like you can place it sacrificing in response to them casting then countering their spell giving you the draw and them getting counter or it's effect happens immidatly after a spell is played and you casting a counter won't effect who draws

Oracle text on Standstill is casts a spell. The point is to have the vial out, and since it puts creatures from your hand onto the battlefield, it doesn't trigger. Mutavault doesnt trigger either. Besides that, standstill will pretty much trigger any other way. Unless you mulligan down to 6 or less cards and it happens to be in your hand, it's difficult to avoid triggering it.

Well it makes sense since opponent casts a spell, trigger to sac standstill goes on the stack next, last in first out tells us the standstill trigger resolves first, so now you just wait till standstill trigger resolves and cast your counter for opponents spell still on the stack.
