It seems that's a good point of playing legacy: your deck isn't gonna get banned

I've only become familiar with eternal formats in the last year or so:

How often are there bans for legacy that completely remove a deck in comparison to modern?

Seems like birthing pod, twin and summerbloom, eggs were all decks that simply were done after a single banning of a piece

Aaaand that's why I only play legacy. People say legacy is too expensive but standard rotates and modern decks that people drop hundreds if not thousands on get banned out of existence. Crazy.

There was loads of talk about a sensei's divining top ban that didn't eventuate. Besides that, and treasure cruise there hasn't really been any rumblings about cards that should be banned for AGES in legacy. And nor should there be, the format usually has all the tools needed to sort itself out.

As far as the latest round of bannings go, the one I am most excited about is cloud of faeries. I have been ranting about that card for far too long. So happy I don't need to anymore, and it also feels good to be able to say 'I told you so'

The difference is, when a card or two are banned in legacy it doesn't kill entire decks like modern bans do. Plus legacy is just so fun to play. Even when I lose on my turn 0, I feel that it's by far the best format. Haha

Lol I know that legacy and Modern are both about equal in prices atm and the twin banning screwed modern up BUT ya you got me lol. Like modern is still cheaper but less banning a and less meta changers is a strong reason to push legacy but Modern is still awesome

I find it more fun to play with the most powerful cards. Legacy = most powerful = most fun.

I do realise that by this logic vintage should be the most fun, but I do not have enough body parts to harvest and sell on the black market to be able to afford to play vintage.

I am against using proxies for anything other than playtesting anyway so it wouldn't matter.

They aren't. They only care about stores profiting off of events using proxies. And even then, I don't think they care that much.

The reason they emailed that one store in particular was because its proxy tournament had a suspiciously large prize pool. And the bit about no proxies, period? Know the game, "Telephone"?

I think both are secure investments, honestly my modern cards have gained more value compared to legacy, but legacy has remained consistently high. I saw lots of extreme emotional reactions from people who were unhappy with the bannings... And sure it sucks to have your deck banned but I wouldn't say it matters from a financial standpoint. Splinter Twin may be worthless but all the other staples of the deck haven't lost value.

I think the idea of card "security" and "investment" are pretty foolish when applied to MtG, I don't play this expensive game because it makes me money I'm playing to have fun, I'm too attached to some decks to bother selling them. I haven't lost confidence in modern, but Ive accepted Wizards will interfere with it at times. For better or worse I'm still having fun.

I have thought if enough aren't satisfied with Modern and move into legacy what that would do to legacy staples (given limited supply/reserve list cards). Especially when combined with all these price spikes we've seen. I know in the past eople sold off cards that gained value to buy into legacy. I'm OK with either.

Because Force was an uncommon. Uncommons were never put on the Reserve List.
