They said they are not interested.
Wow seems like there becoming more interested in making money themselves instead of promoting a game they have been making for years... Its a sad world we live in.

They really can give two $hits about the game they want your money
They make money by creating a great game. If the game sucks, people stop playing. People stop playing, they stop buying. They stop buying, WotC stops making money. You see oh this works?

Their problem is that they make great games, but 💩 software. I think DotP has been their only good software export ever.

Even at that, DotP is so generic. ALL of the decks run on auto-pilot, and there are so many features missing that just make it so varied from real life M:tG. For instance, manual land tapping! That's barely a new thing in 2013, I've been screwed over due to bad AI tapping, I really hate Pre-cons too. They should make a Version with a bigger Card Pool, and something like an in-game currency system to buy more packs, and allow Built From Scratch decks, I mean come on! The DotP Online Competetive Scene isn't that crazy, throw in more cards! Let the players get creative! They could make a single massive "Core Set" that the card packs and Symbols would show, (The D12/D11 set symbol) and still have precons, but like I said, allow pack purchasing! That would make the game sick! The code for pack randomization and generation is already on M:tGO, just alter the card pool and code parameters, it couldn't be that hard!

We're getting off topic:

If they do that, why would people bother to play MTGO anymore?  I think they want to avoid stepping on the toes of their other areas.  If they allow pools of cards in DotP, then ppl will want more and more.  Player stop joining MTGO and play DotP because they don't have to "pay" for these new cards.

Card values drop for MTGO players who are now screwed over.  I think DotP is a great intro for new players.  Having some restrictions on deckbuilding allows for some customization without blowing the minds of n00bs.  Magic is a ridiculously complex game.  Having certain designed decks allows them to focus on the gameplay.  They have more control over the environment and can keep thinks balanced, and avoid insanity like infinite combos.  (i love them IRL, by having to step through one in a game would be a Reoccurring Nightmare!)

It's like saying you want to completely customize how hard and fast Ryu punches, or make your own MK character from scratch.  Fighting games are still fun, even if you don't have control over customizing.  It's how you pilot each one.

tl;dr DotP ain't too broke, so don't fix it.

Yes but what's their bottom line to make money. Yea it's nice to make the game work well but do you think it's necessary to make a new set every four months and make older sets banned? It's so people have to keep buying. No matter what they are gonna make that new set every 4 months or so because they know they can sell it.

I think we will have to agree to disagree. Because I don't think they care about the product as long as it sells. To sell it they do have to put some thought into it but if they thought they could get away with selling crap they would.

You are right, we will have to disagree.

I spend too much time reading articles written by the people responsible for making the game. Read some of their work and tell me you don't sense their love and passion for the game.

There are tons of players and mtg lovers who would kill for a shot to work at WotC and make Magic cards on a daily basis. You seem to think the only people they hire are just there for a paycheck.

Nope I don't think the everyday employees I think the higher up who actually make the major decisions are all green eyed

I'm sure the people who develop the cards would love extra time to test and balance the cards more but the higher ups found that they can toss out a set every few months even with mostly reprints (core sets) and people will continue to buy it.

They actually had an online poll asking players if they wanted Wizards to make more, less, or the same rate of cards. Players said a resounding MORE!

I guess I didn't see it.

Early on, it used to be three set a year, (one big, two small) and a core set every other year.  Back when Unhinged was released, after Mirrodin block, Kamigawa block came out, followed by 9th Ed.  Then came Ravnica block and they did a special Coldsnap set as sort of a "gag", and lead in to Timespiral block.  Then came 10th Ed.  This was followed by Lorwyn/Shadowmoor.  By this time, they had been consistently putting out 4 sets a year, and players were very happy!  I think the survey came around Zendikar block, but I'd have to dig it up.

Here's some discussion on the topic:

Not to mention older sets are still supported by formats like Modern, Legacy and such..

Having new sets rotate in and old ones move out keeps the Standard environment new and evolving.  It's not like Monopoly, Magic is a different game every time you play it, and it's been changing for nearly two decades.
