Hey guys,I know there are poetry contests ongoing, but I want to be different.I want you guys to write a Sonnet of Love.It can be anytype of love. It's up to you on wheter you want it to be a Shakespearean(English Sonnet) or a Petrarchan(Italian Sonnet). For those of you who don't know what a sonnet is,it is a peice of literature that consists of 14 Lines, all of which have 10 syllables.
English Sonnet : 3 Quatrains(Four Lines for one quatrain) 1 Couplet(A pair of lines)[Rhyme scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GG ] Petrarchan Sonnet: 1 Octave(Ten lines form an octave) and a Sestet (a stanza with four lines)[Rhyme Scheme:ABBABBABBA CDCD]
Sorry the prizes are crappy, that's all I have. Hopefully you guys will like this. Here's an exame of an English Sonnet:
As I look back upon these special times, I think of the day I first saw your face. Your smile under the sound of the wind chimes The angelic aura of thine grace.
Those unfathomable seconds we spent, togetheras we gaze at the night sky. While I think back, I myself shall repent. For all our sorrows have made me awry.
As you depart, leaving behind your heart, I grasp this gift you have given to me. Tha fact that you and I will stay apart, as though, it is not meant to be.
As I walk through these memories of ours, I know we will remember them for years.
So many writing contests... Well, I placed third in birdbrains poetry and won the essay contest (only one other guy participated), so ill give this a shot.
I'm going to enter, but I don't want any of those prizes if I win. In fact, if I win, don't give me anything, because I'm just entering for the fun of it
Trapped beneath this one way river, a curse or a bunce? Wishing it would dry up Or flow two ways at once To push me to the surface, out of this trapping cup
Her eyes Two emeralds beaming with intelligence, and beauty, and traits that will trap men Her smile a sunrise Most of her beauty lies within
Ehmm and I was looking to read some sonnets... Even though Birdbrains entry is really good it is not sonnet... Sonnets have their own structure...
yes it is. Read it again...ok, I changed it into the proper form
Still not a sonnet...
You are missing rhymes there... sonnet must rhyme in certain pattern... depends on the sonnet version but the most common english sonnet which is divided into 4 strophes ( Shakespearean sonnet ) rhymes a-b-a-b, c-d-c-d, e-f-e-f, gg in iambic (mostly pentameter) pattern.
Edit: But please do not take me wrong, I like your entry... Only sonnet is really specific piece of poetry...
