Chapter 1: The Mage's Circle

The streets of Ravnica are bustling.  Pedestrians push past each other, attempting to get to their next destination urgently.  Only to be stopped by circles of protestors of Ravnica's oppressive justice system.  Or they are halted by roadside stands, selling everything from pickled fungus, or ooze soup.  Sometimes there are some young mages, practicing the new chants they have learned recently.  People would gather around these circles sometimes, watching in awe as they witness the runes light up along the mages skin, as they attempt to chant their spell.  Their concentration is precise, and their words spoken clearly, but softly.  Most of the time the mages' efforts are in vain, but sometimes you get a spectacular show of wonder before your very eyes.

Today, a circle of mages formed in the middle of the street.  They did absolutely nothing until a large clock tolled.  Everyone temporarily looked up to see the time.  It was exactly twelve o'clock in the afternoon.  The sun planted itself right above the circle of mages, and they all cringed at the brightness of it.  They pulled hoods to shroud their faces from the sun's rays.  People gathered around the circle, but they could tell something was off about this group.

The mages all knelt down onto the ground, and began chanting. Nothing seemed to be happening, until they looked down at the cobblestone streets they walked upon.  They were transformed into a black, mushy mass of weeds, and sewage.  People began to panic, mothers held onto daughters as they rushed away from the chanting mages.  Runes glowed an ashen black upon the skin of the chanters.  Their words grew from a soft whisper, to a public speaking level.  The swamp-like ground began to loosen up, allowing the citizens to sink rapidly.  They all begged for mercy, but every single one of them met their watery grave.

The chanting dies down, letting the ground gain its former consistency again.  A mage breaks from the ranks, striding over corpses that lie in the ground.  The mage begins a chant with different words.  Sheer power erupts from the being blowing the hood back to reveal glowing eyes, shaded in a bright purple.  Black hair is waving in the wind as the chants grow louder.  Suddenly, a specter swoops in from above landing next to the woman mage.

"You know what to do my pet." she thinks, as she still chants aloud.  The summon received the subliminal message, and the Hypnotic Specter barreled through the air.  It soured over the city, surveying the area until it found what it needed.  After spotting its target, he circled around it, marking the area so the group could find the target. After multiple rotations the mage dropped her concentration, making her summon dissipate into thin air.  As the group of mages progressed to the target, the lesser mages continued their soft chant.  Keeping the ground swamp-like, but dense enough to walk upon.  The lone woman however continued being lonely.  All the way until they reached their target.  Upon reaching a wide building, the woman practically glided up the stairs leading to an ornate door.  She places her hand on the door, muttering an incantation.  After removing her hand, the door rotted away at an accelerated pace.  Mold, and mildew overtook the entrance, until there was nothing left except for blackened, brittle wood that lay upon the cold, hard ground.

Wind blew into the large building, which rippled a banner that flew high in the main hall.  The female mage read its words, making sure she was in the right place.  "Academy of Ancient Relics" displayed in bold, red letters.  She smirked as she scanned the room for any intellectual looking targets.  Her eyes fell on an old man surrounded in mountains of books.  Most likely a former member of Izzet, continuing his studies of early inventions.  She glided over next to the senior, reading over his shoulder.  Relics were described in vivid detail, but her desire wasn't upon the page.  The item that could amplify her power, two-fold.  She grasped his head, using her immense power to delve into his innermost knowledge.  Using her thoughtseize magic, she searches for a specific artifact. She must have searched for hours, as her concentration started to waver.  She searched with more urgency before she finally found it.  She smiled a devious smile as she found her information, taking it from the old man, and placing it in her brain.  She released her grip the elder, and sighed in relief as she strode away to her fellow mages.

"No one can know we were here." she told the group.

"Well, most are dead.  The old man will probably forget us anyway." a mage spoke up.

"You can never be too careful. I want this building to be reduced to ruble." she coldly ordered as she stepped back to watch her followers work.  Chants were whispered, then they were spoken, then they were shouted.  The building began to crumble to the ground, silencing anybody inside.  The woman stared at the academy ruins in disappointment.  Then her face lit up at a great idea.

"This is too noticeable.  Sink it!" she orders the others, admiring her idea.  The group mustered up their powers one last time, making the black ground a murky, swirling mixture of poisonous water, and sludge.  She watched with an evil twinkle in her eye, as the former academy sank beneath the murky ground.

"Much better, now excuse me, but I have business to attend to." she explains walking away from her meat puppets.  She feels a hand on her shoulder, attempting to restrict her.

"Mistress, might I ask where you are going, or what you are doing?" a mage asks, quaking in his boots as he wonders what the powerful mage's answer might be.  She merely laughs in his face as she brushes his hand off her shoulder.

"If you must know, I am searching for a scepter.  One so immensely powerful, that only I may possess it.  As for where I am going, I cannot tell you.  It is a place you are not able to access.  A place on a different plane, far from this one."  She monologues, as she walks away.

"Then I wish you luck on your endeavor Liliana." he calls to her.

"All of you must hide!  We shall continue our quest for power when I return.  For now, you must rest." She calls back.  She turns from the sunken ruins as she treks to where she will enter the hellish place.  The place that will lead her to the person who can find her desired item much faster then she can.  She finds a good place and rips through the fabric of time, entering the road to her destiny.

 The Blind Eternities.

Chapter 2:  The Artificer

In a long forgotten area of Mirrodin, a low chasm is shrouded in a thick fog.  To the naked eye, it seems like an empty hole.  But when that naked eye delves deeper into the abyss, tall spires are revealed.  All of them clad in thick metal, and guarded be a myriad of myrs.  Each one is lined up side by side, and none of them are even holding a single weapon.  They stand there like statues, waiting for a call from their master to do whatever needed.  These harmless beings, forced into combat by the simple whim of a man.  A man who sits atop a high throne located at the top of one of the darksteel citadels.

He lounges in his metallic chair, studying his previous work, and his work to be.  Making perfections on an already perfect design.  Other times he studies the ancient artifacts, dreaming about the power such a small, lifeless item can possess.  His fascination still grows as he is currently working on a new invention.  A massive structure that would be built with the help of his iron myrs.  He dreamed about his creation day, and night, imagining what doors would be unlocked with his new power.  He chuckled at the thoughts as he continues to sketch his masterpiece.  His darksteel forge, which will not only triple his production, but protect his wondrous creations.

As he lays upon his metal throne, he fails to see the intruder out of his window that looks over the massive chasm.  It isn't until the intruder has decimated the guarding myrs, was he alerted palladium myr, that came dashing in.  The Artificer bolted upright, shouting orders out in an attempt to rid himself of this attacker.

"Gather together, you must form the myr battlesphere, it is the strongest weapon we have!" he barks.  The robots all melded themselves together to form a massive ball, all pulled by the ones who didn't meld with the others.  They all waited in the throne room with the Artificer waiting for the intruder.

Soon, a slight click became audible, almost like the clicking of well-oiled gears.  The noise became louder, until it came to a complete stop.  The Artificer leaned his head against the door, to make sure whatever had passed by, had left now.  The room became dead silent as the Artificer listened intently.  He lifted his head after a few moments, as he walked back to his throne.

"Whoever came is gone now, get back to your posts." he declared, picking up blueprints for his invention.  The myrs dispersed from the giant mass as they headed for the massive door.  When the giant door was opened, a woman stood at its entrance.  On her face lay a seductive grin, one that would set the most loyal husbands running to kiss the very ground she walked on.  The myrs became confused, unknown to emotion, and simply raised their hands up in defense.  The woman sighed as she raised her hand high above her head.  After muttering a quick incantation, she slammed he hand upon the ground, sending a shockwave of black magic throughout the palace.  The myrs all disintegrated when the wave touched them, and the woman walked past the now rusted metal, towards the leader of the myrs.  He sat on his seat, pretending to be brave, but he was really cowering in his heart.

"Well, it has been some time since we have crossed paths Tezzeret.  How has the inventing gone?" she asked with a hint of cruelty in her tone.  Tezzeret knew that Liliana wasn't here to simply exchange pleasantries, but he indulged in her game.

"Inventions have been revolutionary, in fact I am working on a new structure right now.  How has your life been sorceress, any recent breakthroughs in the world of magic?" he asked, trying to keep a brave face.

"Nothing major, in fact I am stepping away from the world of magic to dabble in a hobby of mine." she answers, keeping an innocence in her voice.

"Now what would that be?" Tezzeret asks.

"I have been reading at the "Academy of Ancient Relics" down at Ravnica recently, and I found a certain artifact that I am sure you have heard of before." she purred.  Tezzeret gulped as he realized why she was here.

"Whatever you want, I will not assist you in your maniacal delusions of power!  Leave my palace now in peace, or in pieces." he yelled.  He called for his myrs once more, but none of them came.  Liliana just laughed as a look of confusion fell upon his face.

"You should really try perfecting your myrs instead of building tall buildings that do absolutely nothing." she laughed.  "Now down to business, I need you to find a certain artifact for me."

"Witch, didn't you hear me?!  I am not helping you, and your thirst for power!  Leave now!" Tezzeret yelled so loud that the sorceress almost flinched, but she realized that she had temporarily forgot about her trump card.  She smiled cruelly, as she turned her feet, and started out of the throne room.

"Well if you don't want to help me that is ok." she said as she walked out of the room.  Tezzeret watched her leave, puzzled that she didn't even put up a fight.  She left the palace without saying a word, leaving the castle dead silent.

He walked the premises, repairing any damages she may have left. After all of the myrs were repaired, a steady click of gears returned sound to the palace.  Tezzeret then put alert myrs at all entrances to make sure this ordeal wouldn't happen again.  He then went into a blissful sleep, as an unusual silence befell the castle of metal.  Tezzeret didn't think much of the silence until he woke up, pinned to his bed by an invisible force.  He tried to move his limbs, but the force kept him down.  He was able to move his head, and see exactly what had happened.

"How did you get past my forces sorceress?!" he yelled.  Liliana simply smiled and continued to sit and stare at him.  Minutes passed by as they continued to stare at each other.  Tezzeret would struggle a few times, but to no avail.  He thought he would lay there for an eternity, until Liliana sat up, and began walking over to him.

"I despise doing this to people, but it seems you have left me no choice." she sighed as she glided up to his bedside.  She lay a hand upon his head, as she began to whisper an incantation.  Tezzeret shuddered as he braced himself for the intense pain that was bound to happen.  Liliana's fingers began to glow a dark purple, as she began to trace symbols upon his forehead.  He didn't feel it at first, but Liliana's caress brought upon him intense pain.  He cried out as he felt his limbs cripple.  Whatever magic this woman was using, it was strong.

The pain grew, as Liliana's chanting grew louder.  Tezzeret screamed an ear-splitting scream, and passed out.  When he awoke he felt like he was a well oiled machine.  He walked around with a vigor in his step.  Completely forgetting about the sorceress from the night before. He had so much energy, that he finished his blueprints for his Darksteel Forge before nightfall.  He lay his blueprints down, planning to begin construction tomorrow morning.  As the full moon began to rise, a slight headache befell the artificer.  He thought nothing of it, as he walked off to bed.  As he lay down, his headache became more noticeable.  He decided to sleep it off, as he attempted to enter the realm of dreams.  He lay in silence until his stomach began to growl.  He probed his tongue around his mouth, only to find his canines have grown to massive size.  He sat up in confusion as he opened his mouth, and felt his large canines with his hand,  he felt a twinge of pain on his teeth, as he removed his hand from his mouth.  He saw that his nails had grown long, and sharp.  He yelped as his stomach growled even louder.  Hair began to sprout over his entire body.  He felt animalistic instincts overtake his common sense, as he howled.  Soon every ounce of common sense he had disappeared.  He began to claw at the walls of his palace, and everything inside.  Myrs spouted oil as he slashed through them all with his dagger-like claws.  He attempted to eat the metallic myrs to satisfy his hunger, but his stomach growled in protest.  It wanted real meat, something this metal environment couldn't provide.  Tezzeret went ballistic as he continued to tear through metal, until the sun rose above the horizon.

Tezzeret composed himself when he woke up later that day.  The sun shone high above his head, as he looked down upon himself.  Scars were embedded in his body, all that could be seen through his clothes which hung in tatters.  He switched his attention to a mountain of metal in front of him.  It took him a few seconds to realize this was his palace.  Along with his myrs, his blueprints, and his relics.  All of his life's work, lay in a heap in front of him.  He fell on his knees, and wept.  Unable to believe that it had all just crumbled down.  Unable to believe that he was the one that caused it all to fall.  Tezzeret finally looked up at his heap of metal again, but this time a figure stood atop the pile.  He looked upon that figure with hatred, as it walked down to him.

"How are you enjoying the curse of the veil artificer?" she purred.

"Whatever you want, I will get it for you.  My one price is that you remove what you have put on me." he said, with a sourness in his tone.  Liliana smiled as she walked to an empty area of the chasm.  She opened up a rift in the space, one that would put them in The Blind Eternities.  She motioned for him to follow her.

"Follow me artificer, let us go on a scavenger hunt." she said as she stepped into the rift.  Tezzeret reluctantly followed her into the rift, as she closed the rift behind her.

Chapter 3: The Journey Begins

The severe cold blows upon their bare legs, as the heat of one thousand sun's beats upon their faces.  Upon their heads is a wind that bears millions of glass shards.  Upon their feet is the ice of which they slip and tumble on.  Above them are rivers of lava, and below them are volcanos that spew tsunamis.  The extreme conditions that no normal human could survive in, or even a powerful mage.  Only one with the spark can survive in these harsh environments.  The Blind Eternities continues to beat the two planeswalkers with its cruelty, as they speak of what they search for.

"Your searching for the Isochron Scepter?!" Tezzeret yelled at Liliana.  His bewilderment is strewn across his face, as the necromancer continues walking in a random direction.  Tezzeret charges up to her, lays a hand upon her wrist in an attempt to stop her. "That is a power that even I cannot comprehend.  Don't you know the possible consequences for using such an intricate relic?!"

Liliana stops, and spins around. "If you think you cannot locate my artifact you can go home." she suggested as she pushed him away from her.  Tezzeret watched in confusion as the mage turned away from him, and started to walk away.  He was free from her!  He rejoiced as he ran away from the woman, running back to his home.

"Please do remember to chain yourself down at night though.  Werewolves tend to be feisty when the sun dips under the horizon." she called back playfully.  Tezzeret stopped in his tracks.  How could he forget something like that?  He sighed and started to follow Liliana.  She smiled as she kept walking.  "So, where shall we go to find this powerful artifact?" Liliana asked.

"Well, it is located on a small island on the plane of Innistrad, in a secluded cave.  Tribes tend to linger outside its entrance in an attempt to draw from the power it emits." Tezzeret explains.

"Might I ask what this cave is called?" Liliana asks.

"It is locally known as, The Cavern of Souls." Tezzeret answered.  Liliana cursed as she remembered what lurks on the outskirts of the entrance of that damned cave.  Humans that desire her head, angels that wish her as a prisoner.  Tezzeret must have noticed her distress, and relished in her misery.  They continued their trek as they continued to talk over the plan of action.

"What we could do, is use my black magic to rot the ones that live there." Liliana suggested.  Tezzeret declined complaining that was inhumane.

"We could always use a distraction." Tezzeret said.  Liliana complained that it was too unstable to work off of.  Their stalemate continued for hours.  Those hours turned into days, which turned into weeks.  On the fourth week, they had figured their entire plan out.  Except for one single moment.

"Tezzeret, we cannot simply turn their attention away with simple parlor tricks.  Angels are stupid, but they aren't that stupid."

"Well, we can't simply kill them, the repercussions would be too great."

"You are implying that I don't already have an enormous bounty on my head.  Raising it a few thousand coins, isn't going to kill me."

"It is simply inhumane, and I can't go along with that idea."

"Well then you can sit back, and do nothing.  I really don't care if you are helping me or not.  I wouldn't gain anything, but I wouldn't lose anything either.  While you on the other hand are losing massively."

Tezzeret, and Lilian still hadn't decided on their crucial operation.  They would have fought endlessly if they hadn't passed the entrance into Innistrad.  Scowling at each other, they stepped through the rift, closing it behind them.  The sun gleamed upon their faces, as they looked upon a large building in front of them.  The large building was surrounded by little, deserted huts.  The town looked quite dull, and uninteresting to Tezzeret.  Liliana however, breathed in the fumes of rotting flesh, and welcomed the setting as if it were an old friend.  She strode through the area, taking in everything about it, the smell, the ambiance, the sound of dead grass crunching beneath her feet.  She took a final deep breath, as she spun around to face Tezzeret.

"Well my friend, welcome to my personal achievement.  The beautiful area of Thraben." she said with a gleam in her eye.  Tezzeret walked around the area, uncovering bits and pieces of the history behind Thraben.  He found himself scrutinizing every detail of the former inhabitants.  Some dead bodies had no blemish upon their pale white skin, except for two tiny pinpricks upon their neck.  While some bodies were charred, leaving a pile of bones, and ashes.  He even noticed some bodies that were still roaming the area.  Zombies of their former lives.

As Tezzeret continued to cringe as he continued to look at the dead, Liliana skipped through the entire town.  Whistling a tune that sounded both happy, and cryptic.  Soon they were at the middle of the town.  In front of them was an ornate church, or what used to be ornate.  Now, jewels that were studded into the door, had melted into the ground below.  The stone of the church had been chipped away at, and blood covered some of the surface.

"Come on, we can find a map in here." Liliana said, pointing to the church in front of them.  Tezzeret was about to tell her there was no need for a map, because he could locate it with ease.  Before he could say something, she had already run inside.  He followed her reluctantly, scared of what he could find in this church.  Tezzeret's fears came true as he passed by bodies with no head, or some half-eaten heads with no body.  The smell of rotten flesh filled the air, and the thought of dying here hung over Tezzeret's head.  However, he pushed forward, looking for Liliana and her map.  As he was walking, he sensed something near him.  It wasn't living, in fact it never had lived before.  He rummaged through the garbage-filled church, finally pinpointing what he had sensed.  He removed a last bit of garbage from it, as he looked it over throughly.  It was a steel cross.  Suddenly a sharp pain ripped through his arm as he dropped the cross.  He looked at his hand which were now slightly charred.  He stared at the small artifact in confusion, then he realized.

He was a werewolf.  He cursed Liliana, and the curse she had cast upon him.  He cast a quick spell upon the cross, shielding it from the world.  More importantly, shielding the world from it.  After that experience, Tezzeret looked even harder for Liliana, shielding every cross he found with a powerful seal.  By the time he had found her, he was completely drained of mana.

Liliana stood at the alter located at the back of the church.  Rummaging through a pile of dusty hearts, and sacrificial knives.  Tezzeret walked up to her, looking over her shoulder.  She found a scrap of paper, and hoisted it high above her head.  Tezzeret looked over the paper, seeing a detailed map of the plane.  Far more inclusive then he had thought.  He saw trade routes outlined in red.  He saw races and their primary locations.  Myriads of dotted lines mapped out the fastest route to every destination.  Liliana searched the map, finally finding the destination.  She marked a small island at the corner of the map, and rolled the map up.  After picking it up, she began to walk out of the church, humming a strange tune all the while.  Tezzeret ran up to her, trailing behind her closely this time, as to not get lost.  After exiting the large church, Liliana hoisted the map up along with some other items.

"Well I have some food, the journey shouldn't be that long.  I have an enchanted sack to help hold all of our items, and I have these to help us get there even faster." Liliana said, as she pointed to crate labeled, "survival equipment," along with an ordinary looking sack, and two pairs of Lightning Greaves.  "I will lead the way because I have seen the map, and you have only glanced at it." Liliana continued. She shoved the items into the enchanted sack, which held everything surprisingly well.  She put in everything, except for the greaves, which she began to put on.  Tezzeret followed her actions, putting on the greaves, and prepping himself for a short, but strenuous travel.  After preparation, the two planeswalkers began running as fast as they could.  One would guide, one would follow.  One would be excited, one would be reluctant.  One would blackmail, and the other would follow orders like a trained monkey.  The journey now begins.

Chapter 4: The Town

"I personally have no problem stopping for a rest, we are making great time."

"However, I want this journey to end as quickly as possible, so why stop, why not just get this over with?"

Liliana, and Tezzeret quarreled as they approached their halfway point in their journey.  It seems to have become a regular occurrence on this quest, frequently finding some way to fight with each other.  This debate was weather they should rest at nightfall in a village they would soon be approaching.

"It has scenic, and practical value!  We can stay in a nice desolate lighthouse, quiet and away from other people.  It would also be a place that we could tie you up in.  We also have been traveling for days now, so we should rest." Liliana pointed out.

"First off, I care nothing for scenic value.  I don't appreciate panoramic views, I don't like the glow of a sunrise, or the sparkling night sky.  I like to get things done, in a quick, and simple manor.  Secondly, there is no need to tie me down tonight!  It isn't a full moon tonight, in fact I bet it is a week away.  Maybe even two weeks away!  Third of all, I need no sleep.  I feel as lively as ever!" Tezzeret exclaimed.

"Well I'm stopping, and you can go on ahead of me.  Just remember anybody realizes you are a werewolf, you will be killed." she said.  Tezzeret cursed the witch's power as he continued to follow her towards the small village.  The village was barren, inhabited by a lowly family of vampires.  Currently the sun was hanging over the horizon, so they were all asleep. The two travelers maneuvered to a large lighthouse on the coast.  Waves crashed against the rocky coast with such ferocity, that the water would spray the planeswalkers from fifty feet away.  As the two approached the lighthouse, a slight moan of a geist warned them to keep out.  Although, Liliana simply flung the door wide open, letting out the musty air stored inside the structure.

They entered, and scanned the building for any other inhabitants, only to find the occasional possessed rodent, or a lonely spirit wafting through the air.  Soon they found themselves at the top of the lighthouse, overlooking a sunset.  A sunset, which cast glorious hues of purple and orange across the sky.  Tezzeret found himself admiring the view, only to look back and see Liliana smirking as she walked back inside.  Tezzeret stayed out in the open until the sun dipped under the horizon.

Vampires began to move around under the light of the waxing moon.  Liliana provided some hexes upon the door to provide them some form of protection.  After that she laid down, falling into a deep slumber.  Sleep however, eluded Tezzeret as he lie awake in the musty building.  He decided to walk back atop the lighthouse, and stare out at the night sky.  The stars twinkled so brightly, it was fascinating.  He had become accustomed to scenic views.  His eyes traced constellations across the sky.  He did it for hours, finding himself rather entertained.  Right up until his eyes fell on the moon hanging high above the stars.  His vision became locked on that point, entranced by the glow of the moon.  His incisors grew slightly, as his nails became thick, black claws.  Suddenly he howled, as he began to try to look away.  Although he couldn't, no matter how hard he tried.  The artificer started to lose himself as he heard a door open behind him.  Liliana stood at the doorway, cursing as she began to chant an incantation.  Suddenly, Tezzeret felt himself getting pinned down upon the ground by an invisible force.  He began to change back to his original form as he heard the door on the bottom door was shattered open.  Loud footsteps could be heard throughout the lighthouse, as spirits became restless.  Moaning, even shrieking  as the footsteps grew louder.  Soon, fists pounded upon the door as Tezzeret completely changed back into a human.

"Jump!" Liliana yelled, as she threw herself into the crashing waters below.  Tezzeret lay in shock as the restraints upon him were lifted.  He hesitated jumping off, but he was encouraged when the door was almost reduced to splinters.  He dove over the edge, entering the frigid water below.  Waves thrash his body into the rocky cliffs below.  He felt blood pour from wounds as he continued to slam into the sharp rocks.  After several more massive waves hit upon his body, he hit his head upon the rocks.  Tezzeret blacked out.

-------------------------------

"Wake up!  God dammit, you have to wake up!  Wake Up!"  a voice shouted.  Tezzeret heard the voice distantly, as he felt a slight pounding his skull.  He suspected it was merely a splitting headache, but when he opened his eyes, he witnessed Liliana hitting him with her palm on the side of his head.  She sighs in relief, but she looks troubled.  Tezzeret lifts himself up off the ground, as he looked down upon his clothes.  His clothes were drenched in a sticky coating of blood.  Looking even more throughly around, he found a trail coated with a path of dark red blood.  Surrounding that trail are many pools of blood, with bodies laying at the hearts of each one.  However the pools did not contain a deep red blood, but black blood.  Tezzeret noticed the attire of the bodies, recognizing them as their vampiric pursuers.  He looked up at Liliana who looked drained.

"I found your body on the shore, so I dragged it here.  The vampires trailed our scent, and were surprisingly decent fighters.  Another problem is that all of our supplies got wet. Luckily, I salvaged a couple food items along with our greaves.  Hopefully you know where you are going."  Liliana said as he threw Tezzeret a pair of lightning greaves.  He grimaced as he slipped the cool metal over his beaten feet.  Every fiber in his body ached, as he got onto his feet.

The two began running to the destination at blinding speed.  Not stopping, or admiring, just running.  Tezzeret led the way, and Liliana tailed closely behind him.  Tezzeret looked back at the other mage, and yelled back at her.

"Why did I change?  It wasn't even a full moon."  Tezzeret asked.  Curiosity filled his eyes as Liliana began thinking.  After a prolonged pause, Liliana spoke up.

"Either it is because my curse is getting stronger, or it is because you stared at the moon too long." she yelled back.  Tezzeret nodded and turned around.  They both traveled in silence until they reached their destination.

 The Cavern of Souls.

 Chapter 5: Destiny

After slugging through a large body of water for hours, the two planeswalkers stood on the shore of a small desolate island.  At its heart, a cave lays in silence.  In that cave is a great power, a power that has leeches surrounding it.  Feeding off every ounce of power that this power has to offer.  Quiet spirits float around the stone walls, although peaceful, ungodly powerful.  Angels fly across the sky, increasing their strength as each second passes.  Human sit around fires at the entrance to the cavern, sharpening the weapons, as they sharpen their senses.

Liliana and Tezzeret run through the forest surrounding the cave, trying to stay hidden.  They lay in the vestige of surrounding trees, and bushes as they witness a griffin fly over from southeast of them.  It is quickly met by an angel, which pierces its body with a sharpened spear.  The griffin falls with a thud as the angel returns to its calm flight.  It becomes quickly apparent to the two of them.  Outsiders are not welcome here.  The two organize a strategy as the sun slowly starts to set.

"Why not kill them?  It is simple, and I can do it quickly.  Those idiots won't know what hit them." Liliana whispers.

"Well what if you can't kill the angels?  And you know how we can't touch spirits, let alone attack them.  Those human will figure what is going on when the first one falls dead.  They will alert the angels, and they will speed down, and kill us both.  If you somehow manage to kill off those two major threats, then we still have spirits to deal with." Tezzeret declared.

"Then if they will realize it after the first person dies, then kill them all at once.  If they will speed down so fast, then let us be faster.  If we can't touch spirits, doesn't that mean they can't touch us?" Liliana says.  Tezzeret contemplated as he looks up at the sky.  Suddenly his hands become hairy.  He stares down wide-eyed as he begins to panic.  Liliana looks at him in frustration, as he begins to shield his eyes.

"You idiot, can't you learn to just not look at that damn old moon!" she whispers violently, as she looks up at the glowing orb in the sky.  A look of panic replaces her look of anger quickly as she realizes what is going on.

It is a full moon tonight.  No matter what, Tezzeret will go into a frenzy tonight.  She can feel his mouth elongate under her hand.  Liliana removes it quickly from his now yellow eyes, and places it on his snout.

"Please don't howl!" Liliana repeats in her head.  Tezzeret's teeth grow sharper, and fur spreads across his body.  His fingernails become long, black claws, and his ears become pointed.  Tezzeret conscious drifts off into oblivion, as his animal begins to rampage.  It throws Liliana from his snout, as it howls so loudly, that the walls of the cave shook.  Inhabitants of the island sprung into action, tackling the werewolf, and stabbing him ferociously.

Liliana watched from a distance, knowing that he would die soon.  She took the opportunity, and ran into the cave while it was unguarded.  Inside the cavern, spirits were alarmed by the sudden intruder. They wailed in alarm as they began to swarm Liliana.  She felt like her life-force was being drained from her very essence.  She mustered a spell up in the confusion, sending a wave of decay around her.  The spirits fizzled away as Liliana shambled deeper into the cavern.  She couldn't hear the sound of fighting outside anymore, so they must have killed him.  She quickened as she blindly wandered around.  Soon she saw it.

Upon a stone pedestal, surrounded by a chasm, lay a scepter.  The planeswalker's face lot up as she jumped over the narrow chasm, right next to the artifact.  She lifts the scepter up off its perch, holding it high above her head.

"At last, I have you!" she cries out triumphantly.  She felt the power course through her veins as she caressed the scepter.  She held it close as she saw approaching enemies.  Then she extended it, muttering an incantation.  Suddenly, a group of the undead climbed up through the chasm, attacking the attackers.  The scepter emitted a powerful ray of light, as another group of the undead sprung up from the chasm.  The attackers were overwhelmed and defeated as Liliana continued to caress her new prize.  After feeding upon the humans and the angels, the undead dug themselves down into the earth again.  Liliana didn't watch them leave, all she did was admire the scepter' look, the scepter's power.

When suddenly, the scepter began to crumble into dust.  Liliana watched in horror as the crystalline artifact turned into a pile of dust before her very eyes.  She began to cry hot tears, as she flung herself onto the pile of metal.  She shifted he hands around in the remains as she bawled.  She pounded her hand on the ground in frustration, drowning out the sound of cracking that echoed through the cave.

Then, she was weightless.  The ground she had lay upon was dangerously close to the edge of the chasm that surrounded the artifact.  Liliana screamed in horror as she plunged down at an alarming rate.  After a moment, her body impacted the solid rock below.  Liliana died on impact, as life left her eyes.  Her soul, tragically slipping away, into oblivion.

Story:
Another Day, Another Planeswalker

“I don’t want to say it.”
“You have to say it; otherwise, I’ll report you and you won’t finish your community service hours.”
“Is there anything else I can say?  The tagline is criminal.”
“It’s required by corporate, not by me.  Besides, after a few times, it will be reflex and you won’t even notice it anymore.”
Sighing heavily, “Fine… Thank you for choosing McWalker King! Where everything tastes so good, you’d swear that it’s magic! How may I help you?”
“You forgot to hold down the push-to-talk button.”
With boiling blood on the verge of bursting, he yelled, “I am Tezzeret, master thief! I should not be here!”
She countered with a raised voice, “I’m Elspeth Tirel, manager of an awful fast-food chain in the middle of nowhere, and I don’t care!”  With her frustration played out, she continued, “And on a second note, shouting our name and profession makes us seem like bigger losers than we already are.  Just help this customer out and we can continue with your training so you can be done with your sentence here.”
Not wanting to face consequences other than community service, he pressed the push-to talk button, “Thank you for choosing McWalker King! Where everything tastes so good, you’d swear that it’s magic! How may I help you?”
“About time, I’ve been waiting forever,” said the customer. Clearly agitated, he went on, “You call this fast?  Whatever, I just want some food.  I’ll take a large Rakdos Burger, a cola, and…”
Tezzeret interrupted, “Would you like to make that cola the “Chalice of Life” size, sir?”
“Don’t speak over me, boy.  However, yes I would. Add an order of fries to that and that is all I want.”
“Thank you; please pull forward to the second window.”
The customer pulled around to the window and was handed his food.  He was about to pull off when Elspeth nudged Tezzeret on the shoulder, “Aren’t you forgetting something?”
Panic crossed his face, “Right! Sir, excuse me!  Don’t forget to pull of the sticker on your drink cup.  If you come across a Rakdos Cluestone, Dimir Cluestone, or an Izzet Cluestone you can enter the ten digit code on our website for a chance to win some great prizes.”
The customer looked completely uninterested and zoomed off with his right hand on the wheel and his left hand in the air, sporting the middle finger.
“Well, he was a jerk,” Tezzeret said.  He turned to Elspeth, “By the way, is that burger any good? I was thinking of giving it a try on break.”
She laughed, heartily, “Not really, we have a term that describes the sandwich. ‘Rakdos’s Return.’ The thing is covered in so much hot sauce and other spicy debris that it tears the colon to shreds.  And then when it’s time, it turns your intestines into a rushing river of sludge that ends with your anus spouting hot liquid out like the great Sulfur Falls. It pretty much leaves your toilet a Watery Grave of stink and hopelessness.”
Tezzeret launched into a fit of laughter.  He managed to finally catch his breath and wipe the tears from his eyes and he questioned, “Isn’t that dangerous to have them for sale then? Couldn’t the company get sued for messing up a customer’s digestive tract?”
Elspeth shook her head, “We did get sued when we first released the burger but we had prepared for it.  Our insurance company, Argentum Armor Inc, wrote an airtight disclaimer, and the suit was eventually dismissed.”
“Well, it seems we have some down time.  Can we turn the news on in the lobby?”
Elspeth responded, “Of course we can.  Are you interested in the mayoral election?”
“Absolutely, I wanted to see if there were any new developments.”
“Give me a minute; I have to find the remote.”
Elspeth fumbled around in the back for a moment, looking for the remote.  When she came out, she turned on the television and flipped through a couple of channels before finding the news station.
The news reporter was out in the field, outside of the city hall.  Her report was already underway, “…people inside of his campaign say that he is a man of Intangible Virtue and that he has True Conviction.  They are all confident that the current polls will stay the same and that we will have a new mayor when the election resolves.  Mishra, “Artificer Prodigy”, as he was known during his tenure as an archaeologist, will also receive a significant amount of votes from the “Naturalize This” movement supporters because of his revival of Cathar’s Crusade.  For those of you that don’t know, the “Crusade” was a movement that seeks to preserve the surrounding natural areas of our city.  It prevents over development of the land and protects the wildlife.  Mishra stated that, ‘The plains and mountains surrounding this wonderful city are too beautiful to destroy.  I will use the power I hope to obtain in the coming election to create a Sphere of Safety around our city and surrounding areas.’ If he is elected, I think our fair city of Grixis will be in safe hands.  This is Emmara…”
The television shut off and Elspeth was running to the back shouting, “Assemble the Legion! Assemble the legion! Code red! I just got a text from the boss; he is on his way now.  Get everything cleaned up! Double time everyone!”
Tezzeret was mildly annoyed.  He grabbed a rag and started to half-heartedly rub the counter down.  He lifted his head up when he heard the roar of an engine outside of the store.  A stunning red Thraximundar x13 Reborn Edition with blue accents and black leather pulled into one of the parking spots.  It was sporting a Wurmcoil Engine with the optional Steam Vents propulsion system.  Tezzeret’s eyes sparkled with lust.  An attempt to steal that very model of car was what put him in this position.
The driver stepped out and casually walked into the store and up to the counter.
As he reached the counter, Tezzeret said, “That is quite a car you have in your possession, sir.”
The customer grinned as he said, “That’s not the proper way to greet a customer.  Do you know who I am?”
“Yes, I do.  Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker.  You are the creator and owner of this chain.”
“Yet you still greet me as such?  People in the industry say that I have the genius and intensity of a dragon.  Powerful businessmen worth millions shake when I walk into the room and here you seem like you aren’t intimidated in the slightest.  These men are colleagues and you are an employee of mine, a person I hold power over, why aren’t you intimidated?”
“Nothing scares me.  I try to live in a manner that follows my code and no one else’s.”
“What does that code consist of?”
“Obtaining what I want no matter who tries to get in my way, sir.”
Nicol smiled a devious smile, “I know what you mean.  I live in a similar manner.  Perhaps, you would like to work directly under me instead of your current position?  I promise you won’t regret it.  The rewards are endless.”
“Count me in,” replied Tezzeret with no hesitation.  “My name is Tezzeret.”
A wicked look came across Nicol’s face as he said, “Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, consider that your new job title.  I have plans for you…”

Story:

Nicol Bolas- Ravnica, the next step to my master plan. Home to ten powerful guilds but more importante, home to the ten possible mana combinations,......and that's exactly what i want !
Niv-Mizzet, my fellow pupil how is everything going in Izzet so far ?
*Niz-Mizzet in Izzet talking to Nicol Bolas using extrasensory powers*
Niv-Mizzet-My lord, everything is going has planned, except for a little unexpected problem we had...
Nicol Bolas- What happened ?
Niv-Mizzet- One of our Weirds was captured by does pathetic fools of Boros. They extracted information from him, at the head of that operation is Tajic, Blade of the Legion but there's no doubt that the true mastermind, if we can call it that, is Gideon, Champion of Justice.
Nicol Bolas- Hum, he's no match for my power ! He and Boros will fall, just like all the other guilds of Ravnica !
Niv-Mizzet- My Lord, he is planning on forming an "Alliance" of sort, their goal, to stop you, Sir.
Nicol Bolas- And who exactly is this "Alliance" made of ?
Niv-Mizzet- Elspeth, the Knight Errant and...Ajani Vengeant.
Nicol Bolas- Elspeth and Ajani ?! I will not lie they are both formidable warriors, but they're still no match for my power ! *Nicol Bolas thinking to himself-Ajani, that pathetic Cat is getting troublesome, not only is he the first person to ever survived an encounter with me, he did it twice !! His brother's death is what gives him this "power" this "will" to destroy me....wait, that's it !! He gets stronger when he faces me because of the hate he has for me, well, what if he faces the person he loves the most, what if he faces....his brother mwahaha !*
Niv-Mizzet- Lord Bolas something on your mind ?
Nicol Bolas- I have a plan, i'll take care of it.
For you finnish prepearing Izzet's army, you are my General and thus i trust you !
Niv-Mizzet- I will not fail you Lord Nicol Bolas
Nicol Bolas- Good ! My loyal subjects, Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas and Sarkhan, the Mad are in their way right now to Ravnica, they will arrive shortly. Their help will be much needed against the forces of Boros, Bant and Naya ! I must go now, i leave the rest to you three.
Niv-Mizzet- Yes, my Lord.
Nicol Bolas- Mindclaw Shaman call upon my disciples for i desire their powers and also tell my Augurs to marsh to Ravnica for we are going to war !
Mindclaw Shaman- Disciple of Bolas Master desires to see you and fellow Mindclaw Shaman and Augur of Bolas we must go to Ravnica, we must take over the city !
*Meanwhile in Boros*
Gideon- We need to think on how to hold the city !!!
Tajic- Sir, Aurelia, the Warleader is taking care if the army Boros Reckoner, Faundry Champion, Spark Troopers will guard the outer gates. Me and my man will be in the front line.....*trompete's playing, in comes Elspeth and Ajani to Ravnica along side their Bant and Naya army !*
Gideon- It's great to see you both make it !! Come we're talking strategies right now !
*hours pass*
Elspeth- Why don't u call upon the other Guilds for help Gideon ??
Gideon- And who would come ?! Gruul are mindless savages, Dimir are as Black as Bolas himself, Orzhov only cares about money Colgari only thinks about death, Simic only about science, Rakdos is pure chaos, Selesnya is to far away, Azorius would come but after the latest Gruul atack they don't have any deffences, Jace isn't here so he can't help in the protection of Ravnica.
Ajani- What about Izzet ?
Gideon- Izzet is allied to Nicol Bolas.
Ajani- What ??!!
Elspeth- How can this be ?!
Gideon- Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius is Nicol Bolas pupil, he is learning on how to become a Planeswalker himself and since he's Izzet lord, Izzet will fight against Ravnica...
Elspeth- Our chances were already little against Nicol Bolas but now that we must face Izzet too i...
Ajani- Leave Bolas to me...
Gideon- Ajani, Bolas as grown stron...
Ajani- SO HAVE I, i survived not one but two encounters against him and this time one of us will fall, and it will be HIM !!!!

Gideon- .........ok......if that's what you desire, I and Elspeth we say no more.
Elspeth- True. That means we will focus on taking out Sarkhan and Tezzeret, while Aurelia takes care of Niv-Mizzet.
Gideon- We will hold them at the Gate of the Ten Guilds, The Gate of Ravnica !
So what are we looking at army wise ?
Elspeth- I brought some of my best knights starting with my General Rafiq of the Many !
Along side him is Knight of the Relaquary me and her we have faught many battles side by side and i would trust her with my life !
I also brought the famous Bant riders, Knight of the White Orchid and Sigiled Paladin and the captain of the biggest Realm in Bant  Knight-Captain of Eos.
And finally Valeron Outlander and  Steward of Valeron two loyal Bant servers.
Gideon- It's seems like a nice army, Elspeth !
Ajani, what about you ?
Ajani- As you know i train Cats at my temple, for many years we grew not only physichally and mentally but also spiritually.
I brought my fellow Pridemates (Ajani's Pridemate) and Sunstrikers (Ajani's Sunstriker). Their skill is beyond any Cat !
I also brought fellow Naya companions such as Wild Nacatl and Nacatl Outlander.
And last but not least the temple choosen ones (Ajani's Chosen), their power rivals does of a Planeswalker !
Gideon- Good ! We seem to have an army powerful enough to stop Nicol Bolas !
Tajic- Sir, our  Skyknight Legionnaires saw Nicol Bolas army in the Selesnya Gate !! They will be here by dawn !!
Gideon- Ajani, Elspeth, reunite with your Generals, you know what to do !!
Elspeth- Yes !!........Ajani what's wrong ?
Ajani- Why does Bolas want to control Ravnica ?
Gideon- I don't know but we need to stop him !!
Ajani- I know but......what if we fail, what kind of power will he have ?
Elspeth- Nicol Bolas is the last Elder Dragon he survived the war and slayed the other 4 Elder Dragons. That's when he became the most powerful and ancient being in the Multiverse.
Ajani- And he stayed in secrecy, until a few years ago where he roose in Grixis and captured the power of the five Shards of Alara, destroying Grixis it self, Jund, Bant, Esper and my homeland Naya.
Gideon- So with the five Shards he now controls all mana...
Elspeth- Then he moved to Zendikar where he wooke the Legendary Eldrazi !!
Ajani- Wait, Bolas controls the five mana powers, the Eldrazi are colorless in other words they don't need any specific mana....
Gideon-Where are you going with this, Ajani ?
Ajani- Ravnica as all mana combinations, think about it, Nicol Bolas controls mana, colorless and combinations, HE WANTS TO FUSE ALL MANAS TO CREATE ONE SUPREME MANA, GOLD MANA, MANA THAT ONLY HE CAN CONTROL !!!
Gideon- !!!
Elspeth- But....but he's power would be....
Ajani- Nothing would be able to stop him, that's why he released the Eldrazi since they were colorless they would have resisted his control but thanks to this gold mana he can make the Eldrazi use Gold mana thus controlling them !
Gideon- This can not happen, WE MUST STOP HIM AT ALL COST !!
EVERYONE TO THEIR STATION !!!!

*Bolas thinking to himself-Ajani, Jace and Garruk, hum, i can take them all mwahahahah !!*
*Big sound comes from far away*
Nicol- It can't be...
Garruk- I had a little talk with Nissa Revane and yes, we have brought him here...
Nicol- Impossible....!!
Ajani- Yes !!! The one you have awoken when you Alara Shards, the one you have angered !!!
*"The one" shows up*
Nicol-.......Progenitus !!
*Nicol thinking to himself- Arghhhhh !!!! After controlling someone has strong as Jazal, i don't have enough mana to take on Ajani, Garruk, Jace and Progenitus !!
Nicol- Niv-Mizzet tell Izzet to retreat, we head to my hideout......we have what we came here for mwahahah !!
Niv-Mizzet- ? Yes Master
Nicol- Foolish Planeswalkers, we will meet again !!
*Nicol teleports everyone to his hideout*
Tajic- Victory, we have victory !!!
Ajani- Nicol....
Aurelia- Tajic, you and your men take care of the wounded.
Elspeth in a really bad condition after her battle with Sarkhan- Thank the skies... *Elspeth collapses*
Gideon- ELSPETH !!! GET A MEDIC QUICK !!!
Garruk- Ajani are you ok ??
*Jace and Garruk help Ajani up*
Ajani- Yes, thank you my brother.
Jace.....why did you help us ??
Jace- Ravnica is my homeland, no one will destroy it not even my number one rival, Nicol Bolas...
Ajani- Number one Rival ?!
Jace- His mind is bigger then the Multiverse it self, one day that knowledge will belong to me !!
Ajani- I see...
*Progenitus growls*
Garruk- Don't worry Progenitus, you will have your revenge !!
*Meanwhile in Bolas hideout*
Nicol- Mwahahaha pathetic Planeswalkers think they won mwhhahahaha !!
Niv-Mizzet- But Master, we didn't take over Boros !!
Nicol- True my dear Mizzet but while we were battling Boros my Grixis army slayed the other Guilds except for Dimir which is now our allie mwhahahaha !!
Sarkhan- BUT MASTER WHY DID YOU TELEPORTED US BACK ??!!! I WAS ABOUT TO LAY THE FINAL BLOW ON ELSPETH !!!!
Nicol- Don't worry Sarkhan, there's no doubt you are superior to Elspeth, besides Dragons beat Angels don't they mwahaha !!
Tezzeret without his arm- Sir, i failled you, i'm sorry !!
Nicol- Nonsense, your hoover barriers gave my Grixis the time they needed to take over the other guilds.
Niv-Mizzet- What now Sir ?
Nicol- We prepare for the final battle !!
Sarkhan takes these three stones, with those you will be able to reanimate THREE OF THE LEGENDARY DRAGON SPIRITS !!
Sarkhan- You mean....
Nicol- YES !! Kokusho, the Evening Star, Ryusei, the Falling Star and Keiga, the Tide Star !!
Sarkhan- !!!
Nicol- Ral you will take care of Izzet and Dimir forces, once you're done head to Innistrad and look for a Devil named Tibal, the Fiend-Blooded, tell him i will give what he always desired....
Then search for a Necromancer with the name of Lilliana Vess, she's in debt with a Demon, she will join us if i pay that debt.......with the death of that Demon mwahaha !!
Tezzeret you will go Esper my forces already control Esper, I want you to build me the most powerful Artifact army the Multiverse has ever seen, an army that would put Mirrodin to shame !! Talking about Mirrodin, i want you to form an Alliance with Phyrexia, they will help if this means the end of Mirrodin...
Niv-Mizzet- What about me Master ?
Nicol- You will come with me.......it's time we ignite your Planeswalker spark !!
The war that will set the future of the Multiverse is about to begin....and i will rise victorious Mwahahaha !!
*In Boros*
Tajic- They are all destroyed, Sir !!
Gideon- So this was his real plan, to divert attention so that his Grixis army would take out the other guilds !!
Tajic- What do we do know ??
Gideon- We assemble !!! I want Boros, Selesnya and Azorius ready for battle. Aurelia, Trostani and Isperia, i trust this to you !!
Ajani- At this moment, Nicol must be forming a powerful army, we must ride !!
Gideon- What do you have in mind ?
Ajani- I will ride to Naya and Bant, i will bring the entire forces of those realms, they will follow Progenitus ! Then ride to Mirrodin, Karn Liberated will certainly help us, he would do anything for Mirrodin !!
Garruk- I will head Est and call upon Nissa Revane and the Elfs, the will certainly come !!
Gideon- Good, i will head South to my apprentice Chandra Nalaar and then head down to Innistrad. While Sorin Markov's heart isn't pure, he would do anything to protect Innistrad !!
*Elspeth walks into the room*
Elspeth- Don't forget Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, she has a pure heart and she will defend the human race !!
Gideon- Elspeth, you should rest !!
Elspeth- No time. I will talk to the Angels for their help. I will call upon HER !!
Jace- You mean...
Elspeth- Yes, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, the Queen of all Angels !!
Gideon- That is to risky, HE will come !!
Garruk- Who's he ?
Jace- Lord of the Pit, the King of all Demons !!
Gideon- He will call upon his army of Demons, Demons like Griselbrand, Reiver Demon, etc,... and they will try to slay the angels !!
Jace- Not sure...
Gideon- What so you mean ??
Jace- Who is the Planeswalker with the darkest heart in the Multiverse apart from Bolas ??
Garruk- Lilliana Vess...*says Garruk with alot of anger*
Jace- Think about it, Lilliana has a debt to the Demons, if Bolas kills the Demon Lilliana will certainly be by his side but in the plus side the Demons will be angry for a mortal not pay his debt. We might just have the Demons by our side and besides we all know that Bolas plan is to control the Multiverse and Demons do not like to be controlled.
Ajani- The Demon are so impure.......but they are strong and their help would certainly be a big one !!
Gideon- Then that's how it's going to happen. We must hurry friends for we don't have must time !!
*Ajani thinking to himself- Bolas your day is coming, the day where i will slay you and avenge ny brother !!*
Gideon- Now ride my friends. The war for the faith of the Multiverse is about to begin !!

Nicol Bolas, Niv-Mizzet, Grixis, Lilliana Vess, Zombies, Esper, Phyrexia, Tibalt, Sarkhan, Dragons, Tezzeret, Izzet, Ral and Dimir

VS

Gideon, Ajani, Garruk, Beasts, Nissa Revane, Elfs, Angels, Elspeth, Jace, Azorius, Selesnya, Boros, Chandra, Naya, Bant, Sorin, Vampires, Karn, Mirrodin, Tamiyo, Humans, Progenitus and (Demons)

Who will win ??

This was a fun thing to do, and great job to the other contestants.  Crysis, I did laugh a lot in your story.  Something about Nicol Bolas controlling food chains worldwide, and Tezzeret as a worker in "not McDonalds" just works. :)
