We would have people who just run around being jerks, listing people as untrustworthy without reason. If we did do that we would have to have some kind of trials to change it if someone is listed as untrustworthy when they really aren't or they would have to list a reason and prove it.

I meant if we were to implement the suggestion above (about marking people on their pages as untrustworthy) there would have to be some kind of overview to stop people from marking others as untrustworthy without reason.

We don't have that for Karma, why for this?

We have mods who watch karma, also karma could just imply that the person is outspoken where if it were to say untrustworthy right on your profile that would deter trades, which wouldn't be fair to the person who was marked as untrustworthy if he hasn't done anything to deserve the label.

Say, if i think you're untrustworthy, you are untrustworthy to me. It's a fact. You may disagree but I still don't trust you.

I agree, but I don't even think I'm trustworthy

But what stops me from making an account and marking you as untrustworthy for no reason other than I felt like it?

What stops you from doing the same thing with karma?

Mods have some control over karma, and if you have low karma it doesn't necessarily mean anything other than someone doesn't like you where if it were to say you are an untrustworthy trader it would imply that well, you can't be trusted, which might result in the loss of a potential trade. If we didn't have some sort of oversight than it would end up being an unreliable source and be worthless, so what is the point of implementing it if it is just going to end up meaning nothing?

According to your logic, Karma as we have it is worthless. This is highly disputable.

It's not worthless, but because anyone can affect your karma and because it has little oversight, karma is a very unreliable number.

I don't know, it seems quite reliable in the long run. Even helps to detect people like Kuberr.

I would argue there is plenty of oversight

Karma is worthless. It causes so many pointless disputes it's almost laughable. It's one redeeming feature is to give a very, very general idea on how the community feels about the persons ideals. Past that and it's a system I feel causes more harm than good.

Karma in a vacuum is fairly useless. In the grand scheme of things it does point out generally helpful people. There are inadequacies, ways abuse it and ways to gain plenty of it. But all and all, I think it's relatively positive system.
