I believe this price jump is due to a rising need for life gain and card advantage against the various fast aggro decks that are rapidly streamlining into major threats. While the card probably isnt worth $30 or even $20, my assumption is that due to it's decent $8 price tag it did have, many stores became overstocked as they were traded in for more relevant cards before this price jump. Since the stores now have most of them the price people are willing to pay has risen since people cant trade for them as much.
Hellrider / Silverblade Paladin --- RDW and U/W aggro are two archtypes that got strong post rotation. Basically every fast deck needs a finisher, usually 3-4 mana. After losing all other options, hellrider and silverblade reign supreme in a small pool of cards because of the fast damage they can pull off. Both can effect the game when they hit the table, because they effect other creatures.
He's been roughly $30 since it's realease. I really like this one because his price has never truly dropped. Even in times of low play, people retained his value because he is extremely powerful regardless of the meta. I think the only thing that could bring his price below $20 would be a baneslayer angel equivilent that would beat it every time.

He's finally dropping to a more reasonable price, showing as an avg of $30 right now, which in my opinion is what he should be worth. $50 was way too high. He's good, but not that good.
