Look at the text. It specifically says you choose WHICH creatures block and HOW THEY block.

Deducing that you may choose who blocks and what they block

Yeah, I went back and looked at his stats.  He's okay.  No {Hero of Bladehold}, {Indomitable Archangel}, or {Sublime Archangel} for the some cost, but that's a pretty high bar to measure up to.  (Like my Olymplic reference?)
