I attack with a 1/1 {Falkenrath Exterminator} and my opponent has a {Circle of Flame} out. Does my creature die before it gains a +1/+1 counter?

Yes because it gets the -1/-1 when declared as an attacker and doesn't get the +1/+1 until combat damage.

Ok so i am clear, he dies before even dealing damage? That makes sense, it does say attacks not damages.

just to be clear the exterminator doesn't get -1/-1 he just recieves 1 lethal damage.
