From what I understand, round numbers are based on player count in Swiss-style. 8 or less is 3 rounds. 9-16 players plays 4 rounds. 17+ plays 5 rounds.

All the places I know of here in the central Ohio area do drafts (and constructed also) all in Swiss style tourneys. That seems to be the rule of how many rounds are played, though I may be off by 1 (becomes 5 rounds at 16 not 17, can't remember for sure which)

With less than 8 people, sometimes its nessisary to have a fourth round for tie breakers. (we had one last night)

Aren't there supposed to be no tie breakers with Swiss style, because ties are settled based on the records of each player's opponents?  Granted, in a game with so few people that could get dicey... I guess I've never seen a tie. And when I draft with so few people with friends, it's all so casual that we settle ties with the roll of a die so we don't have to go through the hassle lol

Well yes. We only had 6 people and 3 of us had the exact same record.

I usually go to different stores every week. There are a lot around here.

The one I went to last night had a pretty small crowd.

Improbable, but not impossible. I imagine bigger cities have bigger crowds. Our 7pm fnm has usually 56-64 people.

But how many stores do you have in said area? Lol

There's like 11 different places to play around here.

And where do you live? It sounds like a big city.

Well. I live far away. But Olympia, Washington. It's the capital and like 20 miles from Seattle iirc.

My shop does a three or four round Swiss, depending on players

I didn't mean to.

If there's one thing I love about public forums, it would be off-topics ;)

It was 3 rounds with 12 people split into 2 pods. We only har 1 real local place to play fnm that I actually like and enjoy going to. The owner has helped me a lot transition from playing yugioh to magic. (yes I know yugioh 😥) our local fnm has anywhere from 16-24 people
