What do you guys mean when you say your "gaming group"?
I see everyone talking about it, but I'm not sure what exactly they mean.

Kuberr

Like at fnm and local tourneys?

BadLuckIrish

just people you play with normally. Mine consists of a high school teachers and a few friends.

Kuberr

Ah. That makes me feel lonely. Lmao.

Jdogtoocool

All this magic stuff to me is just a hobby to be more social and whatnot do go out there play magic and make new friends

Danielkix

My group is just friends at college, they play in between classes. It's how I got into it.

BlackJester

My group is 5-8 friends that get together on Mondays at the host's house for beer and cards.  Good times!

That's my kind of group!!

BlackJester

They're alright, yeah.  But, you also need to know that one plays entire playsets of Beta and Unlimited duallies, decks worth thousands.  Another plays {Memory Jar} + {Megrim} almost exclusively.  Another feeds the table with {Howling Mine}s, {Mana Flare}s, and {Rites of Flourishing}, ramping up another player's massive Dragons.  Finally, the host plays resource denial: turn three {Braids, Cabal Minion}, or {Balancing Act} for zero permanents and zero cards in hand.  Then proceeds to poke us one at a time with an {Anurid Brushhopper}.

Oh yeah, and we still use mana burn and you have to roll to determine who you get to attack that turn.  Things either get insanely crazy, or mind-numbingly boring as you wait to die.

Kuberr

You would have to use mana burn for a lot of vintage. Haha

I never did the rolling or target of attack, but I like that a lot!!

NO!!!!  Don't do it!!!

It's nerfs creature combat, which is where the fun is, assists control-combo, which is where the fun isn't.  It disengages people from the game.  You end up with a bunch of guys playing solitaire to see who can pull off their stunt first.  I rag on almost every week about getting rid of the roll.  FFA is fun when you have to think about who to attack.  Forming alliances against the Big Bad, then breaking the alliance when your partner becomes a threat.

i have learned to live within this format, and so I play "kill'em all" combos or direct damage stuff.  That way, I rarely need to roll, I just need to pray to the dice-god to leave me alone long enough for me to combo-off.

Kuberr

I need to go to England to play with you.

BlackJester

Still, a great group, lots of fun, unnecessarily frustrating sometimes.  Oh yeah, and the only mulligans allowed are no land and all land.  That's it, if you get one Ravnica bounce land, you're hooped!

You'll have a hard time playing me from England, but okay.

Didn't you say you were from England?
