'Ello, the name's Wynn. I've been playing for about ten months now, and have had this app forever, but never checked this forum (lol), but anyways, I've mainly come here for advice. I want to start playing more competively, in the ten months I've played, I've never made top 8, but been close once every month, and it's starting to frustrate the fudge out of me. :/ my current competitive decks consist of; Green Aggro Beatdown (Mana ramp elves, craterhoof), Green/Blue/White Defender Mill (Axbane/Alchemist combo, Tamiyo, and the only white I've got right now is a playset of cloudshifts and one resto) and Selesnya token beatdown (Everything token wise, parallel lives/intangible virtue). This week I just got fuggin swamped by this meta deck consisting of RDW and early game zombies. I mainly need help building sideboards, because I honestly never build them because I can't switch out cards. Help?

Thanks, Wynn

Firstly, Welcome to the forum side of the app!

Secondly, it sounds like your meta is always changing (which creates a healthy environment for new ideas and counter strategies). This also means that having a sideboard for your deck is really imoortant, allowing you to recover for game 2 (and 3). Knowing what to side out is an art in itself, but it also allows you to create a far more focused deck.

If RDW type decks are your problem you might want to look at things like hexproof or indestructiblility for your creatures/permenants and hexproof for yourself too ({Witchbane Orb} for example). Protection also works here.

Keep thinking and enjoy the challenge :)

Hello everyone. I really never introduced myself so here it goes: I played MTG about 10-12 years ago but I joined the U.S. Army and kind of left everything behind in storage. While away, my storage was broken into and all my cards were stolen. Luckily for me, I had a good friend while I was stationed in Germany that found out I loved to play MTG and luck has it, he was quitting the game. He ended up GIVING me about 25k cards. They followed me throughout my different duty stations around the world but never really made it out of the boxes. About a year after I left the service, I started organizing and attempting to play again. It has been a fun, adventurous journey ever since and an addiction at that. I want to thank everyone that has helped with my builds and traded with me!

Hello, kudos to the creator of this app/community
Played when I was 10-12 when revised and 4th were released...then stopped for a long time, made a demon/destruction deck for .poo.s and giggles a few years back (picked up a tutor for a buck!) and then most recently met my GF who played and had some EDH decks... Dropped about $150 on eBay and now have quite a collection to assemble from.
Thanks to people geekin' on cards I don't need; I've only spent $140 on my collection and that includes a box of Gatecrash :)

Definitely more interested in Vintage/Legacy and EDH play... Probably will buy Into some standard tournaments at my local shops (nextgen & Melrose music/cOmics)

Hellooo,

I was introduced to magic a week ago and I'm pretty hooked already.

Any tips for a new player? I currently have a black vampire deck and a red and black vampire deck... What else is good and easy to understand? (I've been told NO MORE VAMPIRES!!)

Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

Hello everybody!

I've been playing mtg for about a year and a half now, and just discovered this community a few days ago. I'm not so much as a competitive player as I am a collector. There's nothing better than holding a rare vintage card in your hands. But I always enjoy a good game!

Hope to see you all around the community!

Well it seems as though I have been rude. I have been on the forum for about a month and have failed to introduce myself. My name is Alan and I have been playing since Devember. I am 45 and married to a wonderful woman, Lisa, who plays with me but I have not gotten her to go to FNM, yet:). I am in seminary and will be a pastor soon so not all Christians think this game is evil, it is not. I look forward to learning more from the knowledgeable people on this forum.

Welcome Alan! Don't worry, you'll get your wife into FNM ;)

FNM is the Siren's song of magic players - it will lure us all to her glory eventually.

Hey guys and gals.  New to the app and have been thread stalking for about a week or so, figured it was time to say hi!  I primarily play White-Red or Artifact decks but will dabble in White-Insert Color Here just to mix it up a bit.
