Say I have   {Virulent Sliver} on the field with first strike thanks to  {Striking Sliver} and it was attacking but is being blocked by a 2/2 token. How would damage play out?

Poisonous has no additional effect on creatures. It is simply a 1/1 first strike being blocked by a 2/2. So, the 1/1 will deal it's damage first (in the first strike damage step), marking 1 damage point on the 2/2, then the 2/2 will deal it's damage (in the normal damage step) marking 2 points of damage on the 1/1. The 1/1 will then die.

Gotcha so that would be the main difference between poisonous and infect!

Also, that no matter how much damage the creature does to a player, you only get one poison counter. If a 5/5 creature deals damage to a player, only one poison counter is placed on the player.

AND your craters still deals damage normally, unlike infect, which places poison counters INSTEAD of damage.
