Actually, in this case it creates the problem of actually having to cast a bigger spell to get rid of all 4, like {shatterstorm}.

I mean, you could.  You just need to not have a Nexus on the field to actually take the extra turns.

I prefer {Protoype Portal} and a Sac outlet to take infinite turns off of Nexus.

It's a replacement effect, not a triggered ability.
