I encase all my trades in cardboard so it can't be seen through, even in proper lighting.

Real talk, I had a trade a while back where the same thing happened. On side was completely cut off, but the cards were still in it. A stamp sayING "arrived damaged" was on it. My cards were all there and okay, but it still was very peculiar. Who was that trade with again?

Me. I'm glad the cards were still in it and not damaged.

I had one like that a few years ago. Took over a month to get to me, side was torn open, and arrived to me in a plastic ziplock bag. Weird

I've had things that have been a bit damaged from a machine or something arrive in a post office bag, but nothing like that slit open...

Could be the possibility that it was inspected under suspect of being explosives or something...

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to open someone's mail? Or is the post office allowed to do that?

I've had that happen to 2 of my trades in the past. One showed up ripped on the side, empty. The other was in a ziploc bag with a "damaged item" stamp or something like that. The second was still in there.

The post office is the exception because it's government.  They can do it, but no normal person can.

Thought that might be the case.
