Why no Soulfire Grand Master?  Seems to me he'd be great with all that burn.

We tried him out. He was never worth the slot. He dies too quickly to gain much life, doesn't attack through caryatid/courser, and i think in all our testing ~50 games with him, i activated his ability one time.

I have a Boros deck with soulfire. I think most people are using him incorrect. Yes he is only a 2/2 but I use him for late game life gain only. Or turn 3 drop him with {Gods Willing} in hand.

This deck is not meant to let it become much of a late game.

{Soulfire Grand Master} is a more counterburn card. I only have him in the sideboard of my Jeskai Counterburn deck for Modern.

May I ask why you don't run {collateral damage} over lightning strike? Seems solid to me but maybe your experience can tell me something.

A single token will typically deal 3+ damage in its life, so saccing it for 3 doesn't do much.
