Playing proxies can be a lot of fun. There are different philosophies behind it but it:
allows players without insane income a chance to play with elite cards, it allows you to experiment before really purchasing the expensive cards, it puts amazing cards in the hand of brilliant people who wouldn't otherwise be bothered playing magic beyond casual. I think that's great.
