Might be a little difficult if they use sleeves.
Shuffling a sleeved deck is difficult?
Or are you talking about different colored sleeves?
Shuffle without looking at the cards. People do it in commander all the time.

i think he means two different sleeves/decks being shuffled together. not gonna be random if you can tell which deck its coming from.

That's exactly what I meant.

shuffle all targets while someone is not looking, then the one not looking says a number, and you count from top till the number the person said.

seems less efficient than rolling dice.

Lots of people don't have d30s :-)

Gorzo

Split up the rolls.

Say you have a 6 person game, and someone someone late in the game casts {Boomerang} with Grip on a crowded field.

Step 1 - determine the player. Roll a d6 to see which player has one of their permanents bounced.

Step 2 - determine a permanent type. If a d20 isn't enough to random roll this player's permanents, roll another d6 and do something like this:
1-land
2-creature
3-artifact (non creature)
4-enchantment
5-other
6 or any above category the player has none of-reroll

Step 3 - if you've narrowed it down to this point and a 20 sided die still won't work, something very wrong is happening in this game. Roll the d20, or figure something out and mock the guy for having too much crap on the field for this to work :P

Kaylesh

Thing with Gonzo's method is not every permanent will have the same chance. Eg I could have one {platinum angel} out and my opponent 20 1/1 critters. The chance my angel gets targeted with a creature spell is 1:2 instead of the 1:21 it should be. Nasty with a {doom blade}

Ekann1

I think the shuffling and counting method is the best.

Daxos

if i only had a d6

i would just put all valid targets into 6 piles

roll once choose pile

roll again to determine card.

if more than 6 per pile then either

pre roll for choosing first half or second half of pile according to odd or even roll
or assign card 7 be also number 1, card 8 number 2, card 9 number 3 ... etc. (a.k.a. modulo 6)

in other words choose your own adventure -- this is one of those fun problems
