Also now that I'm looking at it again, what made you exclude {jeskai ascendancy}?

Ascendency is good when decks are built around it. Not as affective when going strictly for damage. I chose buff spells so that I could focus getting large amounts of damage in early. Jeski Ascendency would put my back a bit.
